Application med June 16, 19m. erial No. 478,147.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ll, Ross J. CHRISTY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Fremont, Sendusky County, State of Ohio, have invented certain new end useful linprovements in Safety Razors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to safety razors of` the type of that shown in my prior Patent No. 853,960, date-d May 21, 1907, end has for' its object the provision of improved means for accurately positioning the blade on the holder and maintaining the same against movement relative thereto, and also to provide a particular form of blade for Cooperation with such holder, all as hereinafter niore particularly described in connection with the accompanying drawings, iniwhich :A
Figure l is a perspective view ofa Safety razor elnbodying my invention;
Figure 'is o corresponding view of the blade-supporting plate and guard with the blade and spring-clip relnoved;
V.' l''igure 3 is a corresponding view ``of a inodified form of blade-holder;
Figure ll is a bottom. view of the springclip for holding the blade in position on the holder; end
Figure 5 is a face or plan view of' inyJ novel form of blade adapted pnrtieularll' for cooperation with the holder of Figure 2.
' The same reference numerals are einploycd to indicate the corresponding parts in the several Views.
Secnred to the upper end of the hendle is the blede-supporting'plate B provided at its forward edge With the integrally forined guard B" connected with the body of the plate by the Curved arms b, and provided at its opposite ends With the up-turned flanges 6"; :ill' as in the construction disclosed in In prior/patent before referred to.
4 In asseln ling the parts of the razor for use the blade C is placed upon the blade- 'supporting plate B, with the ears 072 at its upper rcar Corners in contact With-the rear ends of the .fianges b' on the plate, B, and 'the spring-clip D is then slipped ,over the parts, os shown in Figure'l, to hold 'them hut inasmuch as in such case the blade Was hold from outwa'rd 'or rearward movenlent to cooperate With correspond'ing; notches a, i
in the ends of the blade O, such notches having inclined inner Walls corresponding to the inclined inner surfaces of the lugs 52, and straight forward walls, parallel' with the cutting edge 'of the blade, to cooperate Withthe Shoulders fornied by the ,forward ends of said lug's. rlhe lugs 52 inay be fornied in any suitable Way, being shown inthe present instance as struck up froin the. body of the plate B..
` ldlhen the parts of niy iinproved razor are assernbled for use, with the blade C resting upon the supportinff-plate B and'held in place' by the spring-c ip D, With the notches a' in its opposite ends engaging the lugs 52, and its cars C2 eng'aging therear ends' of the ffanfzes b', the blade will be securely and positively held in position upon the holden,
holder, and in the second place the provision of thelears 02 upon the blade enables the latter to be used `With the holder of the razor shown in my prior patent, as well as with the improved holder of the present application. Nevertheless, both the langes' b' of the ,holder and the ears 02 of theblade may be omitted'if desired and a holder such asthat shown in Figure' 3 be employed. In such case the engagement of the inclined inner walls of the notches in theends of the blade with the inelined inner snrfacesof the lugs on the holder will sex-ve to prevent displacernent of the blade in a forward direction, while the engagernent of the straight vI claim as new and desire to secure the upturned flanges on theyb ade-support- 'and a ing plate, and having also a notch at each end, each of saidl notches having an inclinedwall -and a front wall for coo eration, re- 'spectively, with the inclined wa ls and front Walls of the lugs on the blade-supporting plate, and means for holding the blade on said plate.
2. In a safetyfrazor, a blade-supporting plate having a ugadjacent each end thereof, each of said lugs having 'a front wall extending parallel to o ne longitudinal edge. of, said plate and' an .inner wall inclined away from said front wall toward one end of said plate, each of said lugs being further provided with an outerv surface inclined inwarfil-'y from the' front-wall thereof and merging in the outer surface of said plate.
3. In a safet `.razor, a blade-supporting plate havinga ug adjacent each end thereof,'each of said lugs'having a .front wall extendin parallel to one longitudinal edge of said p ate and an inner wall inclined away from said front wall toward one end of said plate, each of said lugs being further provided' with an outer surface inclined in- Wardly from the front 'wall thereofl and merging in the outer surface of said plate,
'b ade having an angular notch at each end thereof to be engagedby vone of said lugs, each off said notches having a front wall to engage the front wall of one of said lugs and an .inner wall inclined away from .the front wall of the notch toward the end of the blade to coact with the inclined inner. wall of the adjacent lug.
4. In a Safety razor, a 'blade supporting 'plate having a lugl adjacen't each end thereof, each of said lu 'having a front wall or shoulder and also avinga-n innerw'all inclined away from said-*fronty wall: toward me end of said plate, each of'saidl t being z'fu'rther provided with an outer sur ace inclined inwardly from the front wall thereof and mer'ging in the outer surface of said plate: H
5. Ina Safety razor, a blade-supportin 00 plate having a grojecting lug adjacent'eac end lthereof, eac of said ugs having a front shoulder `extending outwardly from said plate and having an outer surface inclined away from said shoulder and merging at the 05 other end of the lug in the outer surface of said plate.
6. In asafety razor, a blade-supportin plate having a projecti'ng lug adjacent eac end thereof, each of said lugs having a front shoulder extending outwardly from said plate and having an outer surface inclined away from said shoulder and mergng at the other end of the lug in. the outer surface of said plate, flanges formed on said plate and extending outwardly therefrom at each' end,
;andv a blade adav ted to slide between said fianges over sai inclined surfaces of said lugs and having notches therein adapted to be engaged by said lugs when vthe blade reaches its operative position.
7. In a Safety razor, a blade-supporting plate having a projectin lug adjacent each end thereof, each of saidlugs having a front shoulder extending out-wardly` from said plate and having an outer surfacel inclined away from said-shoulder -and merging at the other end of the luo' in the outer surface of said plate, flanges formed on said plate and extending outwardly there'froni at each end, and a blade ada ted to slide between said flanges over sai inclined s:'.rfaces of said lugs and having notches thel'ein 'adapted to be engaged by said lugs when the blade reaches its operative position, said blade having lugs extending longitudinally therefrom to be engaged by said flanges.
8, A blade'for a. Safety razor having at each end an edge extending rearwardly at right angles to the cutting edge .thereof, each of said edges having ar'notch thereln located rearwadly of said Cutting edge, each 'of said notches having a wall extending substantially parallel with said Cutting edge and an inclined wall extending realwardly from said front wallto theadjacentt edgex'of said blade, said blade 'being also provided with longitudinal projections at each of' its rear 'Corners extending beyond said edges. i, U0
In testimony whereof I .herennto afixt my` signature.
