Description

5. DE COLA WATER CLOSET Dec. 1925 Filed March 12. 1925 INVNg:
ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 1, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT oFFics WATER-CLOSET.
Application filed March 12, 1925. Serial No. 15,041.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SALVATORE DE COLA, a subject of the King of Italy, and a resident of San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Closets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates particularly to a novel means for ventilating a water closet.
It is the object of the invention to provide a closet so formed and constructed as to be thoroughly ventilated from beneath the seat tothe exterior of the building in which it is placed.
It is another object of the invention to provide a closet that combines in one integral piece both a flushing conduit and an air vent conduit, so arranged relative to each other as-to function independently yet encompass the entire upper portion of the closet bowl.
It it still another object of the invention to provide a closet of the character indicated that will be simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and highly efficient in its practical application.
a The drawing is a vertical section through a closet embodying my invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, I show at 1 a water closet bowl of any suitable form and construction and made of any suitable material, with a discharge outlet shown at 2.
In the upper portion of the bowl 1, and encompassing the same is a conduit com munieating with the interior surface of the bowl by means of a plurality of orifices as 4- by means of which jets of water may be discharged over the entire interior surface of the bowl. This conduit is provided with an inlet 5 to receive water from a source of supply not shown.
In t 1e upper edgefof the bowl and encompassing the same above the water conduit 3 is a conduit 6 communicating with the interior of the bowl by means of a plurality of orifices 7. I
The conduit 6 has a somewhat greater cross-sectional area than conduit 3 and overhangs the same in such a manner as to form a lip 8 beneath which the orifices 7 are located.
This arrangement locates the orifices 7 out of sight and creates a draft upwardly all around the inner surface of the bowl, the air being drawn from the room into the center of the bowl when the same is not in use, and thence to the sidesof the bowl and to orifices 7. The conduit 6 is provided with an opening at 9 communicating with an airvent not shown.
It may now be readlly seen from the foregoing that I have provided a bowl that is effectually vented to the outside at all times, and one in which both water and air conduits are so arranged as to provide a highly eflicient and economically constructed article of manufacture.
It is to be understood, of course, that while I have herein shown and described one specific embodiment of the invention, changes in form, construction and method of operation may be made within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim: An article of manufacture comprising a .water closet having a water conduit encom- SALVATORE DE COLA.
