UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. MOGONNELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN NOZZLES.
Speeication forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,300, dated October 27, 1874 application tiled September 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES H. MoCoNNELL, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bevel-Gear Shut-Oftl Nozzle, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a longitudinal section of my iinproved bevel-gear shut-oli' nozzle. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the inner end of the nozzle. Fig. 3 is a detail top vieW of the valve-plug.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved hose-nozzle, which shall be so constructed that the fireman Who holds the nozzle can shut oft' the Water Wholly or partly Whenever desired, and which shall present no through a hole in the side of the bulb O, which hole is closed by a screw-cap, c". The cap c is so formed that its outer surface may be continuous With the surface of the bulb O. Upon the inner end of the nozzle A is formed a segment, E, of a bevel-gear Wheel, the teeth of which mesh into the teeth of the segment F .of a bevel-gear wheel formed upon the top of the plug D.
By this construction, by turning the nozzle A in one direction, the plug D will be turned to allow the Water to ow through the said nozzle, and by turning the nozzle in the other direction the Water will be shut oft'. The bulb O may be made With double walls, to give it the necessary strength Without making it too JAMES H. MGGONNELL.
