Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EEEDERIGK BOWEN, 0E PEACIIVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROPE-SOCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.- 156,271, dated October 27, 1874; application tiled August 22, 1874.
To all whom it may conce/ru:
Beit know-n thatl I, FREDERICK BOWEN, of Peachvillc, Butler county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Rope-Socket, of which` the 'following is a specification:
I n the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical central section on line c c, Fig. 2, of my rope-socket; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same on the line a: w, Fig'. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of myl invention is to provide an improved rope-socket connection, for hoisting the shafting of oil-wells, &c.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents a strong rope of any suitable material, which is unwound at the end for the purpose of greater expansion.V
Conically sleeve-shaped tapering sections B, by preference two, as indicated in the drawing, are applied over the rope so as to adhere thereon with rigid wedge action, by the collar or sleeve C, with projecting shoulder part,
which collar screws into its lower threaded than the diameter of the latter.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The coupling or connection D, having acavity as well as a female screw in each end, and
provided with a screw-bolt, C, having a perforation conical at the lower end, as and for the purpose specified.
FREDERICK BOWEN.
