Description
F. G. RYAN Nov. 3 1925.
LAUNDRY CART Filed Sept. 28, 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet i QTZ? ATTORNEY NOV. 3, F. G. RYAN LAUNDRY CART Filed Sept. 28, 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 ATTOR N EY Patented Nov. 3, 1925.
UNITED STATES FLORENCE GENEVIEVE RYAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
LAUNDRY CART.
Application filed September 28, 1923. Serial No. 885,496.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FLORENCE G. RYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Laundry Carts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a laundry cart and has for its primary object the construction of a cart by means of which clothes may be sorted and besides the operator relieved of strain in conveying the clothes from one place to another.
An object of the invention. is the novel manner of constructing bags and arranging the same in various positions with and combining the basket support so that a basket of clothes may be readily conveyed to a place to be dried, and the dried pieces sorted in various bags. I
Besides the above my invention is d1st1nguished in a laundry cart that can be folded into a compact space.
With these and other objects in view the invention may be better understood from the following detailed description taken In connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the cart.
Fig. 2 is a top lan view.
Fig. 3 is an en elevation.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 44' of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged end elevation of the side frames.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fin. 2.
Again referring to the drawings illustrating one of the many constructions of my invention the numerals 1 and 2 designate a pair of side frames including the top bars 3 and wheels 4. The top bars 3 are connected together by a flexible support 5 which in this particular instance is made of canvas so that clothes may be arranged directly on the support or clothes basket arranged on the support. The bars 3 have their ends formed into handles 6 and removably engaging the handles are the loops 7 of the clothes pin receiving bags 8 that are provided with drawstrings 9. The side frames are held in extended upright position relative to each other by the pivoted links 10 and the lock bar 11 that is "ivotally connected to one side frame as indicated at 12 and has detachable engagement with the pin 13 secured to the other side frame. Side bags 14 are removabl" connected to hooks 15 projeetin from the top bars 3 and are further braced bags 17 are supported at the ends of the side bags for .receiving small articles.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accom anying drawings by the flexible members 16. End (If) it will be seen that I provide a simple sub- 5 stantial construction which will allow clothes to be conveyed from place to place with verv little effort and at the same time allow proper sorting thereof.
It is of course, to be understood that the various bags may be constructed in other ways and connected to the frames in other manners and besides the side frames may be constructed in other ways and have other collapsible engagement with each other, therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner exceot as set forth in the claims hereunto a pended.
Havingthus described my invention what I claim is:
'1. A collapsible laundry cart comprising side frames, top bars extending longitudinally of the frames, a flexible support spanning the distance between the top bars and having its edges connected thereto, means pivotallyconnecting the side frames at their ends to ermit folding movement toward each other, lock bars at the ends of the frames, each having one end connected to one side frame and the other end detachably connected to the opposite side frame and side bags removably supported along the sides of the too bars.
2. A collapsible laundry cart including normally s aced side frames, top bars along the up er ed es of said frames, a flexible FLORENCE GENEVIEVE RYAN.
