The present invention relates more particularly to cars for transporting live poultry and has for its object to facilitate the cleaning of the deck and the removal of dead fowl, as well as to prevent the stock from smothering under troughs.

The removable fioor comprises a sheet metal plate 1 preferably of gavlanized iron section taken on the line No. 631.815. Renewed August 26, 1925.

and of required dimensions as occasion may require. Guards 2 provided at opposite sides of the plate 1 and may be of any height to retain the poultry and to provide ample ventilation, whereby to prevent smothering under the troughs A in a car. The side guards 2 preferably form a part of the plate 1, marginal portions thereof being bent upwardly and parts out therefrom to insure circulation of air. A handle 3 is provided at the front of the plate 1 for convenience of drawing the same outwardly from the car when it is required to clean the deck or unload the car. A rear guard i is provided and i" of a height to prevent the fowl from getting thereover and to insure moving the same to the side of the car when drawing the floor outwardly over the deck for purposes of cleaning, unloading or removing any dead fowl. The rear guard 4 consists of brackets 5 and rods 6, the brackets being of L-form and secured to the plate 1 and the rods 6 being attached to the upright portion of the bracket.

in practice, a floor constructed substan tially as herein indicated is placed upon the deck of the poultry car and may be drawn outwardly when it is required to clean or unload the car as herein indicated.

lVhat is claimed is:

In combination with a car for transporting live poultry, the ear having spaced troughs and supports therefor, a movable floor, said floor having relatively low open portions integral with it at its sides rising therefrom and constituting guards serving as the sole means to prevent escape of poultry below the troughs, brackets rising from the floor at the rear thereof, and rods mounted by said brackets above the guards, said rods being of a length greater than the distance between the supports.
