Description

1925' w. is. DALE COMPRESSION SHAMPOO FIXTURE Filed Jan. 21. 1924 Patented ct. 20, 1925."
UNITEDQ STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM BIRD DALE, or WINNE'I'KA, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO STREET & KENT MFG. 00., OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
COMPRESSION SHAMPOO FIXTURE.
Application filed January 21, 1924. Serial No. 687,481.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, WILLIAM 'BIRD DALE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of l/Vinnetka, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented ,certain new and useful Improvements in a Compression Shampoo Fixture; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention-relates to an improved form of combination basin and shampoo cocks for bathrooms, barber shops, and the like, wherein the basin fixture is used both as a lavatory and a. sprinkler for shampoos.
It is an object of this invention to provide an improved fixture of the class described that will be more easily operated by the user or attendant with less liability of accidental injury to the head of the user from contact with the valve handles.
It'is a further object of this invention to provide a combined angle and elbow valve or cock for a shampoo fixture whereby the operating handles of the shampoo and basin cocks will be aligned so that the user. will have no difliculty in locating either handle even if blinded by soapin his eyes. ()ther and further important objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the accompanying drawings. his invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan View of a fixture embodying the features of this invention.
Figure 2 is afront elevation thereof. Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional detail of the elbow-angle valve shown in the other figures.
As shown on the drawings: The reference numeral 10 is applied in Figure 2 to a line representing the top surface of a wash basin through which the stems of a pair of basin cocks project and are connected to sources of hot and cold water supply. The basin cocks as shown are provided with compression valves and levers 13 which do not obstruct the passage of water to the shampoo fixtures there-above through the nipples 11. An elbow-angle valve 15, to be hereinafter described in detail, is screwed onto the nipple 14, and long nipples 16 are screwed into the horizontal branches 17 of these valves, meeting in a central coupling fixture 18, carrying a hose outlet 19 for the shampoo spray and a bracket 20 to support the spray head when not in use.
The elbow-angle valve 15 includes a dependent boss 21 to screw onto the nipple 11 and serve as a water inlet to a chamber 2:2 within the valve which is partitioned oti' from the horizontal branch 17 as at 23 in Figure 3; a stepped 'valve seat 24being indicated in the partition. The valve body 15 extends outwardly, at an acute'instead of right angle with the plane of the piping as a whole, to contain the valve stem 25 and valve disc 26 which seats within the stepped valve. seat 24. 'hen this valve disc 26 is retracted the water passes to the sprayer through a passage")? cored between the partition and the wall of the valve.
The angle of the the branch 17 is preferably such that it is aligned with the lower basis cock lever and a hand wheel 28 is provided therefor to readily distinguish between the two valves by the sense of touch.
the angle-elbow feature of the shampoo valve, is that the handle of the latter is rebending over the basin while washing his hair. In such a position the. valves are One of the adv-air tages of the allgned valve stems,- due to valve stem relative to not visible and if the person looks up to" invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention: 1. In a shampoo fixture, hot and cold water basin cocks, water supply pipes ex-.
tending vertically therefrom, angle elbow .basin cocks for hot and cold water supply,
bypasses therein, nipples connectedto said bypasses, elbow valves thereon, a spray connection between said elbow valves, and
angularly disposed valve stems for said elbow valves aligned with the valve stems of said basin cocks.
3.-In a shampoo fixture, basin' cocks, angle elbow valves connected thereabove having valve stems aligned with the valve stems of said basincocks and a shampoo discharge connection between said elbow valves.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto 20
