with a conventionally designated line 14 for the recs ticn of the license number of the car, an below theline 14 with a conventionall designated line 15 for the reception of the etters of the identifying codc.
Arranged below the pictorial re resentetioiti\, 5, 6, and extending transverse y of the portion 1, is an identifying code consisting of the letters of the alphabet, as In 19 dicated at it, the digits 1 to 9 as ind1- noted at 17, and a cipher as indicated at 1 8. The letters of the alphabet are arranged n two transverse rows and each letter Within a rectan lar space 19 formed by trans- 15 verse on .longitudinal lines 20, 21. rcspectively. Certain of the longitudinal lines are extended, as at 22, and in connection with a transverse line 23 and one ofthe transverse lines rectangular spaces 24 are provided for the digits 17. A pair of intermediate lon 'tudinal lines 21 are extended as at 25, an in connection with the transverse line 26 and the transverse line 23 a rectangular space 27 is provided for the cipher 18.
' Below the code, the body portion 1, is provided with conventionally desi ated lines 28, 29, 3G, 31, 32 and 33 for t e reception respectively of the owners name, his street number, the city in which he resides, the
- county in which the city is situated and State to which the county belongs, and further for the name of the county representm tive.
The pictorial representation 5 or 6 of the 35 motor vehicle is adapted to have positioned thereon letters or digits. of the code which have been selected and stamped on concealed parts or secret noinm of a motor vehicle',so
. that the letters or digits will appear on a pictorial representation at o nts corrcspending to the oints on which they have been applied to the motor vehicle. By way of example, it would be assumed that the letters A, G and W have been applied to the motor vehicle for identification purposes and that the said letters A, G and W are then placed on a pictorial representation at points corresponding to the points at which they appear on the vehicle. From the selected letters of the code, such letters corresponding to those which have been placed on the vehicle, extend arrows for indicating cooled point or points on the vehicle and that after being cut, stamped or otherwise applied to the vehicle the fiictorial re sentation of the vehicle wi have app 16d thereto, such combination at places corrospending to the position of the combination on the vehicle.
When usiu the certificate, the certificate I will preferaby be issued in quadruplicate and one copy will be attached to the insurance policy, a copy sent to the insurance company, another copy forwarded to the automobile theft bureau, and the remaming copy retained in the ofiice of the agent writing the policy, or in other words, the certificate so descnbing onee ownershi of the vehicle Wlll be made out for each ve icle owner, having the car insured and a copy will be placed with the insurance policy and other pro r authorities.
The 00 0 provides means for identifyinga stolen vehicle when the engine and license numbers have been removed or whcnthc car has been disguised and as. the code is ap lied to secret or concealed arts of the ve fcle, the tampering therewi is reduced to a minimum.
The code letters selected, if desired, may be the initials of the name of the owner of the vehicle, and although the code is illustrated as consisting of letters of the al habet and digits, so that either or a com ination of both can be used, yet it is to be understood that any suitable code capable of carrying the invention into effect can be employed.
The identification certificate, not only includes means to provide for the identifying of a vehicle, through the medium of an identifying code, but furthermore contains all the regular designations, indications or data usually found 11 on a motor vehicle.
Although the pre erred embodiment of the motor vehicle identification certificate, in accordance with this invention, is as described and illustrated, yet idle to be understood that changes in its form can be had, such as adding thereto the name of the association issuing the certificate or that the certificate can be ornamented in any suitable manner or that, changes in the arming:
ment of the data receiving means, can had which will fall within the light of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is 1. An identification certificate for motor vehicles comprisinga body portion, means thereon to provide a code of selective identifying indicia, means on said body portion to constitute the pictorial rcpresentation of a motor vehicle with the engine ex'- posed for recording thereon indicia selected from said code at-points corresponding to the points of a motor vehicle upon which have been applied like identifying. indicia selected from said code, and said body por- 'tion further provided with conventionally designated means for the recording of the re lar designations carried by a motor vehicle and further for the reception of the vehicle owners name and his address.
