Description
Patented Oct. 13, 1925.
UNITED STATES THOMAS 1VI. GYNAN, OF LEBANON, OHIO.
IN1\TEBSLE.
Applicaton filed. 'February 26, 1924. Serial N. 695,317.
This irwention re1zites to an improved in.
ner s01e f0r shoes which may be sewed into the shoe as en integral part thereof when the shoe is made 0r which may be slipped into the shoe as en accessory if desired.
An object of my invention is to produce an inner s01e in which greater flexibility anti ch1rabi1ity is attained lengthwise and sidewise at the ball of the foot than in 0ther inner soie constructions known to me.
This and other objects are attained in the inner so1e described in the following speci- 20 fication and iilustratedin the accompanying drawing in whieh Fig. 1 is a view of the underside of an inner soie embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is 2L side elevation of the inr1er s01e show n in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view, similar to Fig. 1, but showii1g the upper side of my improved i11- ner sole.
The inner sole embodying my irwention consists of a main porti0n i which is of 1eather, as is usua1 in inner soles, 1 top covering material of c10th 5, a bottom covering materia1 of moisture proofed fabric C which extends 0111y over the ba11 and toe portion of the inner s01e, a heel reinforcement of 1eather 7 and an arch supporting element of ribbed meta1 construction 8.
The main portion or body 4 is provided with a series of perforations 9 which are spaced somewhat as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, but which are p1ace'd within the bal1 and toe portion periphery sufliciently to leave a mergin as shown whch wi11 permit of the piacing therein 0' stitches as in the Mackay n.nd weit s01e process.
An inner sole sueh as I have disclosed is particulafly desirab1e in that it is extremeiy iexible 2md 0r this reason much more 00mfortable the.n inne1 s01es of the usua1 type, espeeialiv for those having sensitive feet afiicteri with ealloused portions, and the 1ike. A11 adventage I have attztined over those inner sole constructions which are slotted, grooveci, s1it, etc., te produce flexibiiity, is that the umterial of the inner soie is not reduced in thickness end thereby weakened, beeause the original thickness of the leather is umntained throughout, besides allowing he finishing of Outer edges of the shoe s01e te be d 0ne smoothly and without the usuai everhan ing fibres of the slitted, grooved nnd slotted inner s0les.
Having thus described my invention what I eiei1n is An integral inner s01e for sewing 011t0 the bottom soles and uppers of shoes in the ceurse of Construction, comprising u relatively flexible body portion having the baii end t0e thereof ior length-wise and sidewise fiexibility perforated with cylindricai apertures at substantially uniform distances from the edge to provide rim for the re ception of stitches for attachment to the bottom s01e ancl upper of a shoe, a moisture prooi 1ayer of materia1 t0 1ie between the hottom sole and inuer s01e, en arch supporting element attaehed t0 rhe bottom, iid e Iayer of material upon the upper porti0n 0 the inner s01e used as a finisher thereof.
In witness whereof, I afix signature.
THOMAS M. GYNAN.
