UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DOOR HOLDER.
Application led June 5,
all wwm it may conce/m Be it lrnown that I, HERMAN I". Lirsius, a citizenl of the United States, residing at Davenport, in the county of Scott and State 5 of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Door Holder, or' which the following is a speeication.
This invention aims to provide a simple means whereby a door may be held in any position to which it may have been swung as it is opened, to the end that (he door may not be closed by a draft, or otherwise.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the r utility of devices of that sort to which the invention appertains.
Although a preferred form has been depicted, a mechanic, working within the scope of what is claimed, may change that form without departing from the spirit oi' the invention.
In the drawings Figure l shows in side elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention and in the position which it will assume when not in use; Figure 2 is a similar view showing the device in operation; Figure 3 is a section taken about on the line 3 8 of Figure 2.
The device comprises a clamp l, generally made of sheet metal and including a base 2 and an arm 3 located at an acute angle to the base and connected to the base by a bend 4 the clamp l being wedge-shaped. The base 2, the bend i and the arm 3 may be provided with longitudinal corrugations 5 which strengthen the clamp without depriving the arm 3 of all of its resiliency. The free end of the base 2 is turned over to form a stop ange 6. At the free end of the arm 8, eyes 1924. Serial No. 718,098.
7 are fashioned. The eyes hold a shaft 8 recelved within a socket 9, the ends l() of which are .secured to the rear surface oi a lever l] having longitudinal reinforcing ribs l2. In substance, the lever l1 is fulcrumed intern'ie 45 diate its ends on the arm 3, and any suitable means may be used, other than the socket/9, for fulcruming the lever.
In practical operation, the clamp l is slid along' the iioor I4 until the clamp is wedged 50 lightly between the floor and the lower edge of the door 15, the parts being in the position shown in Figure l. Then, the lever ll 1s swung in the direction of the arrow A in Figure 2, until the lower end of the lever abuts against the stop iange 6, the arm 3 being bound against the lower edge of the door 15, and the parts being' arranged as delineated in Figure 2. The shaft 8 is so arranged with respect to the stop flange 6 that, 60 when the parts stand as shown in iiigure 2, the lever ll is not exactly at right angles to the base 2 of the clamp l and, consequently, it is not likely that the levei will be dislodged accidentally from the position shown in Figure 2. f
What is claimed is A door holder comprising a clamp irishioned from a single piece of material bent upon itselil to form a base and an arm, and a lever` ulcrumed on the arm and cooperating with the base to expand the clamp, the free end of the base being bent upon itself to form an overhanging stop which engages with the lever to hold the. lever in clampexpanding position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aiiiXed by signature.
HERMAN F. LIPSIUS.
