Be it known that we, VAN M. LIPsooMB and HORACE H. HooPER, citizens of the United States, residing at Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screens, of which the. following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to screens and it has for its object to provide an improved device of this character adapted to screen materials of various kinds in a highly efficient manner.
It is particularly an object of the invention to provide a. screen adapted to handle either wet or dry materials.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which follows.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal, vertical section of a screen constructed in accordance with the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view upon line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in both of the figures of the dra-wing.
Referring to the drawing 5 designates a supporting frame work. This frame work may be of varying shapes, proportions and material. In the particular embodiment of the invention herein shown and described it comprises upper horizontal frame members 6, lower horizontal frame members 7, vertical frame members 8, upper transverse frame members 9, lower transverse frame members and diagonal braces 11. The lower horizontal frame members carry bearings 12 in which a main drive shaft 13 is mounted. Power may be imparted to this shaft from any suitable source through the medium of a pulley 14. The shaft carries a pair of metal cams 15 each comprising an arcuate surface 16 and an abrupt shoulder 17. Riding irons 18 ride upon the cams, said irons being` mounted upon the lower faces of the side members 19 of a screen frame, said frame having a screen bottom 20, and said screen comprising sidewalls 21 and a top wall 22, the lower end of said screen being open for the discharge of the screened material therefrom. These shanks are cushioned for movement in both directions by means of s 'rings 26 and 27, said springs bearing bettieen thev said up` per transverse frame member and stops 28 and 29 which may be nuts threaded upon the shank 25. The upper rear end of the screen is hung upon links 30, pivotally connected at 31 to the frame 5 and at 82 to the guide frame members 19 of the screen.
Tf the shaft 13 be rotated in the direction of the arrow a the lower end of the screen will be alternately raised, as the riding irons 18 ride over the arcuate faces 15, and dropped quickly when the contacting portions of these irons reach the abrupt shoulders 17. The result is that the screen is given a rapid vibratory motion which ef'- fectually screens materials of various kind and conditions of dampness, etc. screen is held against excessive back and forth swinging movement on the link and under the influence of the forward movement of the cam, by the hooks 24 and their shanks and yet the mounting is such as to permit the necessary movement of the screen. v
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview whatever changes fairly come within either the terms or the spirit of the appended claim.
Having described our invention what we claim is:
