COLLAPSIIBLE CRIB.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, ROBERT P. GREEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Fulton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Collapsible Crib, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a collapsible crib wherein the same is of such a construction as to enable the crib to be readily assembled or disassembled without the loss of any con siderable amount of time or labor.

A further object of the invention is to provide a collapsible crib of the above mentioned character, which when in a collapsed position may be stored away in a minimum amount of space, furthermore enabling the crib to be easily carried from one place to another.

A further object of the invention is to provide a collapsible crib of the above men tioned character, wherein the covering for the sides and ends of the crib cooperate in providing a bottom for receiving the beddin A still further object of the invention is to provide a collapsible crib of the above mentioned character, wherein the side members and the end members are provided with means for engagement with suitable fastening means carried by the corner post for holding the crib in an assembled position.

A. still further object is to provide a collapsible crib of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the collapsible crib embodying the present invention.

Figure 2 is an enlarged detail perspective View of the fastening means for securing the parts in an assembled position, and

Figure 3 is a cross sectional view of the crib showing the manner in which the side and end coverings cooperate to provide a bottom for the crib.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numerals 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively designate the corner posts, the same being arranged in pairs and being preferably constructed of wood and being further substantially rectangular in cross section. Extending longitudinally between the pairs of corner posts are the upper and lower side bars 5 and 6 respectively. Extending transversely between the corner posts of each of the pairs are the spaced upper and lower end bars 7 and 8 respectively.

Fon the purpose of securing the side members and the end members in proper position with respect to the corner posts, the side members are provided on the bottom portions thereof adjacent the respective ends of the same with the angular plate such as is shown at 9. The depending portion 10 of each of the angular plates 9 is disposed substantially flush with each end of the side bars and further provided with a slot 11 for engagement with the headed end 12 of each of the fastening bolts which extends through each corner post in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 2. The ends of the side members will abut the adjacent faces of the corner post and permit the slotted portions of the angular plates to extend over the headed ends of the bolts so that the heads will engage the depending portions 10 and hold the side members in proper position between the corner posts.

The threaded end 13 of each bolt extends through the opposite side of each of the corner posts and adapted for engagement therewith is the hooked end 14 of the plate 15 secured to the outer side of each of the end members adjacent the respective ends thereof in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 2. It is 13180 to be understood that the ends of the end members will abut the adjacent faces of the corner posts and that the hooked portions 14 of the plate 15 extend beyond the ends of the end members. A wing nut such as is illustrated at 16 is adapted to be threaded on the threaded end of each bolt for securely tightening the same whereby the sides and end members will be rigidly supported between the corner posts when the crib is assembled.

This construction affords a means whereby the crib may be readily arid easily assembled or disassembled as is desired without the loss of any considerable length of time or labor and furthermore the fastening means will render the crib strong and will pre vent the same from accidentally collapsing. Furthermore the simplicity in which the fastening means is constructed enables the same to be easily and readily handled and will not require the use of any complicated tools in assembling or disassembling the crib.

The covering for the sides and ends of the frame of the crib formed by the upper and lower side members and the upper and lower end members respectively comprises an elongated strip of canvas 17 which is doubled back upon itself and the free ends thereof are secured together. The upper side members 5 are inserted in the looped ends of the canvas strip 7 and the canvas strip extends over the lower side members in such a manner as to have the intermediate portion 18 of the strip 17 extending across the bottom edges of the lower side members 6 whereby a bottom for the crib is formed.

A similar strip of canvas 19 has its looped end receiving the upper end bar 7 and the strip extends over the lower end bars 8 and across the bottom edges thereof in such a manner as to have the intermediate portion 20 of the strip of canvas 19 engaging the bottom of the intermediate portion 18 of the strip of canvas 17 whereby a reinforcement for the bottom is provided.

In this manner the sides and ends of the crib are covered and simultaneously a bottom for receiving the bedding is formed by the intermediate portion of one of the strips while the intermediate portion of the other strip acts as a reinforcement for cooperation with the bottom. It is of course to be understood that the sides and end members are inserted in the looped portions of the strips of canvas 17 and 19 respectively before the fastening means is brought into cooperation with the ends of the sides and end members respectively.

' It will thus be seen from the foregoing description, that a collapsible crib has been provided which may be manufactured at a lVhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. A collapsible crib comprising corner posts, upper and lower longitudinally extending side bars between the corner posts, upper and lower transversely extending end bars between the corner posts, means for securing the bars and the corner posts in assembled relation comprising angle members secured at the respective ends of the side bars, the depending portions of said angle members having slots provided therein, headed bolts extending through the corner posts and adapted for engagement with the slotted depending portions of the angle members on the side bars, the threaded ends of the bolts extending through the corner posts, plates secured to the respective ends of the end bar, the ends of said plates having hooked members formed thereon extending beyond the ends of the end bars and adapted for engagement with the threaded ends of the bolts, and nuts threaded on the threaded ends of the bolts.

2. A collapsible crib comprising corner posts, upper and lower longitudinally extending side bars between the corner posts, upper and lower transversely extending end bars between the corner posts, means for securing the bars and the corner posts in assembled relation comprising langle members secured at the respective ends of the side bars, the depending portions of said angle members havin slots provided therein, headed bolts exten ing through the corner posts and adapted for engagement with the slotted depending portions of the angle members on the side bars, the threaded ends of the bolts extending through the corner posts, plates secured to the respective ends of the end bar, the ends of said plates having hooked members formed thereon extending beyond the ends of the end bars and adapted for engagement with the threaded ends of the bolts, nuts threaded on the threaded ends of the bolts, and) a covering for the sides Iand ends of the cm In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
