w. T. EVANS I v DISPENSING APPARATUS Filed Nov. 13 192 4 Patented Aug. 1-8, 1925.
Y UNITEDFSTATES MZ'ILLIAM T. EVANS, OF BARTLESVILLE, OKLAHOMA.
- DISPENSING APPARATUS.
Application .filed November 13, 1824. Serial No. 749,768.
To-all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM T. EVANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bartlesville, in the county of Vashington and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a speci fication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in dispensing apparatus and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character comprising a container having associated therewith a detachable spout.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide an apparatus of this kind embodying novel and improved means whereby a spout may be effectively mounted thereon in a manner to permit its easy removal especially when it is desired to refill the container.
7 The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved dispensing apparatus whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention willhereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation illustrating an apparatus constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a view in elevation of the spout as disclosed in Figure 1 not attached to the container;
Figure 3 is a view in top plan of the open top or end of the container;
Fi re 4 is a fra entary sectigii and partly in view partly in As disclosed in the accom anying drawings, C denotes a container 0 glass orother the neck portion 1 ward incline with elevation illustrating a container constructed in accordance with a p further embodiment of my invention.
The
'end of the spout being gradually enlarged downwardly to conform to the body proper of the container C. At substantially diametrically opposed points the neck 1 of the body at its outer open end is provided with the internal bayonet grooves the same general direction. Each of the grooves has a portion a disposed circumfereutially of the neck. .The spout S is tapered toward its discharge end and has its inner or'large end portion secured to a collar or sleeve 3 adapted to fit substantially snug within the outer end portion of the neck 1. said sleeve or collar 3 having its outer end defined by an'outstanding'flange 4 which,
2 disposed in when the spout S 1s in applied position overlies the outer edge of the neck 1. Surrounding the sleeve or collar 3 and positioned inwardly of the flange 4 is a gasket 5 of desired material and which has direct contact with the adjacent end of the container C as is clearly illustrated in Figure 1.
Disposed from within through the collar or sleeve 3 at diametrically opposed points are the headed rivets 6 the heads 6 of the rivets being substantially in close contact with the inner face of the collar or sleeve 3 and adapted to be soldered or otherwise securely-connected therewith.
The rivets 6 extend-adesired distance beyond the peripher of the collar or sleeve 3 to provide outstan ing lugs which are adapted to be engaged within the bayonet grooves 2 whereby the spout S is readily applied to or removed from the container Cs As is indicated by also by full lines in the-form of invention illustrated in Figure 4, the portion a of each of the'grooves 2 is arranged on an inrespect to the container C so that when a lug 6 rides within such portion a; of a groove the flange 4 is forced tightly against the washer 5 whereby said washer or gasket assures an effective seal between the flange 4 and the opposed edge of the neck 1 of the container.
The wall of the spout relatively close proximity rovided with a vent opening 7- to admit S at a point in air'with-in thecontainer C during a pouring operation whereby the requisite dis chpeizpe of the liquid is materially facilita When not in use the outer or discharge Sis closed a cap 8 herein shown as of a sli type.
In the embodiment '0 my invention as ilbroken lines in Figure 1 and to the flange 4 isv lustratedin Figure 4 the container its neck portion 1 by the outer or C has angularly disposed whereopen end of said neck is positioned to one side of the center of the container 0. A spout S is adapted to be operatively engaged with the neck 1' in the same manner as herein set forth with respect to the container C.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a dispensing apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification Withoutprinciples and spirit reason I do not wish limiting myself to the and formation of the thereof and for this to be understood as precise arrangement several parts here-in departing from the shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim An apparatus of the class described comprising a container having a discharge neck, said neck in its inner face being with opposed bayonet grooves, a sleeve fitting within the neck and having a flange adapted to overlie the outer end of the neck, a spout carried by said sleeve, and members insertible from within the sleeve through provided the sleeve and engageable within the bayonet grooves, the inner end of each of said members being provided with a head secured to the sleeve, each of the bayonet grooves having a portion disposed circumferentially of the neck and also on an incline in a direction inwardly of the container.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
WILLIAM T. EVANS.
