To (ziiI whom i? may concern.'
Be it known that l, Fiinicmoii A. SMITH, a Citizen of the United States., residing at ljliiledelphie, in the county of Philadelphia 5 and Stilte ot Pennsylvanie, lnive invented Certain new :ind useful linproveinents in Loud Spezikere.- of which the following` is a Specification.
My invention relates to loud speakers, 10 particularly for radio receiving apparatus-,1, and it relates more particularly to en im4H proved form of device adapten to amplify und project the sound tives generated by en elertrie telephonie receiving unit.
The principal object of my invention is to provide i1 simple and relatively inexpeir Hive apparatus of novel torni for amplifymi. and projectinpy the sound waves oenertelephone apparatus. A further elije/et thereof is to provide such e device which will project the sound waives uniformly in ell directions; and a still 'further object thereof is' to provide un apparatus for th purpose mentioned which will be relatively small und compact, which will present :i pleasing appearance, and which will not he s uiojeet to destruction by being knocked overs es frequently occurs with the use of the 30 unwieldly types of loud speakers et present in Common use.
rlhe nature and characteristic features ot iny invention will loe more readily understood from the followinpr description, taken in connection with the accompanying dran1` ings; forming part hereof". in which:
Figure l is e vertical Central section of n loud Speaker, for rudio receiving appa ratus. embodyingl the main features of my present invention: Y Fig. 2 is e top or plan view thereof, partly broken away; `ond Figi'. El is n. side elevation thereof. Referringy to the drmvinffs, in the particular embodimeiit of my invention therein shown. 5 is n hase member having' en external skirt portion and un internnl inrerted hell shaped portion T., in the lowermost ventral portion oi' which is un upiverdly projecting tent 8. An upper niemher 9 is supportedV above the linee member 5. preferably by means ot tubular ciiilnnins l0. The upper member 9 is also of an inverted hell shape, out the Central portion thereof is somewhat smaller in diameter than the Corresponding part of the bell ated hy the receiving unit of l:i Wlrelees' l rluim :is new and desire to ==i 'it knulnr horn in Whieli Serial No. 69253373..

` shaped surface sind having its central por face, another member having e. flaring bellslmped surface and having its central por tion smaller in diameter und more. elongated in vertical dimension than the bell-shaped surface of the first named member `end extending into the interior of the named member so as to provide an annular Hering space between.- the surfaces of said members, one of said surfaces -hr1-ving a centrally disposed project-ing test, and 11- telephonic receiving unit mounted nt the inner central portion of oneof said men'zbers oppositely disposed with respect to said projecting tent.
3. A loud speaker comprising 21 member having en internal flaring bell-shaped snrface, another member having n, flaring bellshaped surface and having its central portion smaller in diameter and more elongated in vertical'dimension than the bell-shaped surface of the first named member and ein tending into the interior of the first named member so as to provide an annular flaring space between the surfaces olf seid members, a. telephonie receiving unit mounted. et the inner central portion of one of seid :nenn bers, and means for holdinggsaid members in spaced reletionshie eoniprisii'ig-columns eX- tending between ti e lian-mg' portions of said members. l
4. .i loud speeirer eomprising a hollow mises@ base member having en inner inverted bell shaped surface, an upper hollow member held in fixed relationship with respL-ct to the lower member, seid upper member having un inverted bell shaped surface so disposed With respect to the inner surface of the buse member es to provide an annular flaring space therebetween, n telephonie receiving;r unit mounted in the lower portion oii one of said members, the means 'for holding;l seid base member and upper member in spaced relationship comprising; tubular columns, and the connection Wires 'for said telephonie receiving unit passing through, one of said tubular columns and the hollow interiors of said bose and 'upper n'iembers.
5. A loud speaker comprising :i hollow bese member having' an inner inverted bell shaped surface with n cent1-elly disposed upwardly extending tent, an upper member held in lined relationship with respct to the lower member said upper mei'nbor hnving :in inverted bell shaped surface so disposed with respect to the inner irfncc ol the bese member as to ln'ovide :in annuler dering space therebetween, e telephonie receiving unit mounted in the loef'eiwportion of thenpper member above the projecting tent of 'the inner surface ol' the lower member, the. means -tor holdingJ seid basemcnlbcr und upper member in spaced rela-itionshili'comprising tubular columns9 and the connection Wires for seid telephonie receiving unit pass ing t-Mhei'elrm through the hollow interior oi"- the upper nmmber, thence through one of seid tubnler columns, and thence through the holiow interior o the base-member and through an aperture therein to tbe'exterior. in testimony whereof, have hereunto signed my neme.
