IMPROVEMENT IN MODES OF FORMING THE NICKED HEADS OF SCREWS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAYWARD A. HARVEY, of Orange, New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Composite Screws, of which -the following is a specification:
My invention relates to cast-metal screws; and consists in the method of forming a screw having a'shank of one kind of metal with a head of another kind cast upon it under pressure. My invention includes screws having wrought-metal shanks and cast-metal heads.
The drawing exhibits a perspective view of a wood-screw embodying my invention, a portion of the head being cut away to show the construction and the relation of the head to the shank.
The upper end of the shank sis dovetailed, as indicated by the notches n and n on opposite sides of the shank. The head 'h is cast upon the dovetailed end of the shank, and

I claim as my invention- The'method described of forming heads on metal screws, which consists in forming the angular notched portion n and n on the end t of the shank, and casting the head upon and around such projecting portion, at the same time forming the nick, as set forth.
