Be it known that I, WILLIAM THOMAS SANDIFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, 'in the county of Hinds and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring I-Iangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to spring mounting equipment for vehicles, and particularly to spring hangers for trucks, trailers, and the like. It is to be understood that it is not confined to use with vehicles alone, but may be employed in connection with any spring mounting.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a spring hanger formed for automatic equalization of rebound at the spring terminals.
Other objects are: to provide a spring hanger formed with means to limit the move ment of a spring associated therewith; to provide a spring hanger constructed and arranged to maintain uniform weight distribution of a load under all conditions of road travel and generally to provide a novel and improved form of hanger which is highly efiicient and extremely durable for heavy duty as well as lighter Work.
I/Vith these objects in view, and such others as will be apparent from the description, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 is an elevation of a spring and hanger, mounted, and
Figure 2, a perspective of the shackle bearing member.
As illustrated, the invention in its preferred form comprises a bearing plate 1, of which in the present instance a pair are provided, of elongated rectangular formation, having a flat top face 2 provided adjacent each end with bolt holes 3 for reception of bolts l'therethrough for securing the plate to the bottom of a vehicle cross beam 5.
In the application of the bearing plate, the vehicle beam 5 is suitably recessed to receive an upstanding integral curved boss 6 formed centrally of the top face 2 of the plate and extending transversely thereacross. The seating of the boss in the socket provided in the under face of the beam further serves to anchor the plate in position.

which is of the usual construction, having shackle arms 9 depending therefrom at the edges of the boss and connected with the lower shackle bolt 10, which extends under the plate 1 and supports one end of a bowed vehicle spring 11.
The oblong construction of the bore 7 permits of free rocking movement of the shackle bolt 8 Within the boss, under contraction and expansion of the spring.
An essential feature of the present invention is the formation of a stop for limitin the spring contraction. This is accomplishe by means of an integral upstanding flange 12 formed on the under face of the plate 1, in offset relation to the boss on the opposite face. Each plate is provided with similar boss and flange construction, and in mounting the stop flanges are disposed internally of the assembly, as illustrated in Figure 1.
The flange 12 extends transversely of the plate, and acts to limit the movement of the shackle bolts carrying the spring terminals. Under compression, the ends of the spring are moved outwardly and are unimpeded. IVhen rebound occurs, the spring terminals will be drawn inwardly where by reason of the presence of stops 12, an equal movement will be assured to each, thereby preventing a relative difference in the contractile movement of the spring ends. This construction assures an automatic equalization of weight distribution, as on rebound the beam 5 will be maintained level, preventing any shifting of a load carried thereby.
It is to be understood that any desired changes and modifications may be made in the structural details of the invention, as will fall within the scope thereof as claimed.
I claim 1. In a spring hanger, a bearing plate, an upstanding boss on one face thereof provided with a bore extending therethrough, a spring shackle received through said bore and extending beneath said plate, and a flange on the opposite face of said plate to prevent unlimited movement of said shackle thereover.
2. In a spring hanger, a bearing plate, an integral upstanding boss formed on one face through, a spring shackle received through said bore in pivotal supported relation, and
extending beneathsaid plate, and an inte gral stop flange on the other face of said plate, movement of the spring shackle in one direction.
