STORAGE rL'ANr FOit coAL AND THE LIKE.
Application filed November '15, 1923. Seria1' No. 674,841.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ROBERT H. BEAUMONT,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Radnor, in the county-of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Storage Plantfor Coal and the like, of which the following is a specification.
. The present invention relates to drag scraper equipment such as is used in connection with a storage yard, and its principal object is to facilitate the storage and removal of coal or other material atv any part ofthe yard. Another object of the invention is, broadl to facilitate the storage and reclamation 0 coal or other material and to provide a multiple storage cable drag'scrapor system in which the coal or other material can be readily delivered or removed from any locality in the storage yard or yards. Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description at the end of which the invention will be claimed, but the invention will be first described in connection with the embodiments chosen for illustration in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic sectional view of a storage plant-embodying features of the invention. I v
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic top or plan View of the same, and
Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 6 are views similar to Fig. 2 and illustrating modifications.
In the drawings 1 are railway rails or, in other words, a railroad by means of which the material is delivered, and the material,
' for the sake of this description, will be assumed to be coal, but the invention is not necessarilyli'mited to that material. There is a track .inspaced relation with the railroad line and it may provide with the railroad line a series of storage yards. In Fig. 2 this traclnis indicated at 2, and it is shown as parallel with the railroad line. In this case only one storage yard 11 is shown but by' repetition other stora e yards may be .provided. As shown in ig. 3 the track2 is shown as provided with spursor branches 3 which extend toward the railway line'l and provide a number of storage yards 1). As shown in Fig. 4 the arrangement is substantially the same as shown in Fig. 3 except that the spurs comlprise rows of back posts 4. As shown in ig. 5 the spurs or, perhaps more accurately, the main parts of the track,
'\ ator 10 ,from one position to'another.
are shown as arcs of'circls 3*. As shown in '1 ig. 6 the spurs 3 are shorter arcs of circles v and also rows 4 of back posts are shown. On the tracks are movable drag scrapertail'. blocks 5. These are shownas mountedon wheeled trucks 6 adapted to travel on the tracks. Along the railroad line 1 is arranged drag scraper mechanism 7 which includes front drag scraper blocks. several yards there is such mechanism 7 for each yard. The drag mechanism varies but frequently includes a track hopper 8, adapted to receive material from the railroad car 9. an elevator 10 adapted to pick up the coal. and deliver it down a chute 11 so as to form an initial pile as at 12, and other other provisions for reclaiming the material, also a .hoist house and power mechanism which are In use coal is received at the'plant in railroad cars9 and discharged into the hopp p The elepicks up the coal and delivers it down -t e chute 11 to form an initial pile adjacent to the railroad. The scraper 13 is dragged by its cable 14 back and forth over the coaleither to store or reclaim it as the case maybe. Around the edge of the yard is the track fitted with a per 8 below the railroad line.
In the case of I movable tail block or tail blocks either with. i
To portion of the storage yard locks are readily changed or without some fixed tail block posts. store coal at any the movable tail When reclaiming, coal is scraped back to the drag scraper mechanism? for loading omcars for supplying a boiler house.
It will be obvious tothose skilled in the art that modifications may be made in details of construction, arrangement and mere matters ofform without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited to those matters or otherwise than as the prior art and the appended claims. may require.
I claim:
1. A multiple storage lant for coal and the like comprising a rai road line, a track in spaced relation with the railroad line and including spurs extending towards the line and providing a series of storage yards, drag scra er tail blocks movable on said track to ban le material at any portions of the storing frontblocks disposed alongthc railroad line and appertaining to the respective yards, and drag scrapers and their cables co-operating with the tail and front blocks.
2. A storage plant for coal and the like comprising a mi oad line, a track in seed relation with the railroad line providing a storage yard therebetween, a drag scraper tail block movable on said track to handle material at any portion ofthe storage yard, 10 dra scraper mechanism including a front bl and disposed adjacent to. the railroad line, and 'a drag scraper and its cable cooperating with said front and tail blocks.
