IMPROVEMENT IN EVENERS FOR CULTIVATGRS.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 154,472, dated August 25, 1874 application tiled July 7, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, VILA'aIoUs K. GEORGE, of Geneseo, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eveners for Cultivators; and I do hereby-declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters' of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an evener or equalizer for cultivators', as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art.
to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure lis a plan view, Fig. 2 a central-vertical section, and Fig. 3 part of a front view, of my invention.
A represents an ordinary arched axle, with awheel, B, von each end. To the center of the axle A the tongue C is firmlyand permanently secured. 0n top of the tongue C are pivoted two doubletrees, D and E, the former in front of the axle, and the latter in rear thereof. From the ends of the front double-tree D depend bars a a, which are held firmly by means of braces b b. The ends of the rear doubletree E are, by draft-rods d d, connected with the lower ends of the bars a a, and the singletrees G G are connected at or tion of said bars and draft-rods.
near the junc- The draft on the double-tree E is thus downward, and, being in the rear of the axle, it has the tendency to throw the point of the tongue upward. The draft, being also upward on the bars a af, communicates -an upward pressure to the double-tree D, which being attached in front of the axle, produces the same effect of throwing up the point of the tongue, by means of which the downward pressure of the tongue produced by the draft of the plows is counterbalanced. This also forms an evener to which there is almost an unlimited vibration, doing away with the objection existing in the eveners or equalizers now generally in use, viz., that after a small amount of vibration the evener becomes rigid, and one horse, walking faster than the other, does the whole work.
This device may be 'applied to any cultivator.
. Having thus fully described'my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the double-trees D E, arranged on each side of the axle and connected by rods d d, the depending bars a, a, braces b b, and single-trees GG, all operating together as and for the purposes set forth.,v
In testimony that I claim the foregoingv as my own I afx my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
VILARIOUS K. GEORGE.
J. A. KLINE, JAS. M. ALLAN.
