To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS KIM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Covers, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention relates to a sanitary cover for barrels and similar containers and it is an object of the invention to provide a cover which shall fit closely so as to close the container effectively and which shall also be strong and not easily broken.

In the drawings reference character 10 indicates a barrel or other container having a metallic strap 11 passing about the upper end thereof and secured in place by means of a bolt 12 passing through apertures in projecting ears on the strap. By this means the strap which lies flat against the barrel may be drawn together at its ends so as to be clamped firmly to the container. At one point on its circumference the strap has an extension 13 providing one member of a hinge connected by a bolt 14 to a similar extension 15 on the frame member 16 of the swinging cover. The parts 13 and 15 are separated from the head of the bolt 14 and the nut 17 on said: bolt by spring Washers 18 which serve to hold the adjacent faces of cars 13 and 15 firmly together without preventing relative movement between them. The frame member 16 at its front end has a lip 19 by means of which the cover may be lifted.
The frame member 16 has an outer flange 20 which fits about the top of the barrel and an inner recurved flange 21 adapted to receive an annulus of metal having a horizontal flange 22 and a vertical flange 23. The horizontal flange is intended to rest upon the upper surface of a circular plateof glass 24 along its outer edge, said plate being supported at its under side upon the extreme inner edge of the flange 21 while the outer flange 23 fits about the outer circumference of the plate 24:. The plate of glass is convex as indicated in Figure 1 and this convex form taken with the rigid support for the outer circumference of the plate makes it very strong and practically unbreakable by any weightthat is likely to be applied thereto.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of the invention and therefore I do not limit myself to what is shown in the dr: wings and described in the specification but only as indicated in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A sanitary cover for containers comprising a metallic frame member having an opening, an annular flange surrounding said opening, a convex plate of glass resting on said flange, and a strap resting on the periphery of said plate said strap having an outer flange fitting 'between the margin of the plate and a flange on said frame, substantially as set forth.
2. A cover for barrels and the like comprising a strap, means for clamping it about a container a frame hinged to said strap,
and a transparent plate supported by said frame in concentric relation with said container, substantially as set forth.
3. A cover for barrels and the like cornprising a strap, means for clamping it about a container, a frame hinged to said strap, and a transparent convex plate supported by said frame in concentric relation with said container, substantially as set forth.
