UNITED- STATES PATENT oE-Fic ANDREW WAGNER, OF WEST HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOB TO FERGUSON: BROS. MFG. 00., OF HOIBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
TABLE-TOP STRUCTURE.
Application filed January 17, 1924. Serial No. 686,785.
' secure both the table top and the flexible covering therefor to the top frame.
My invention consists in. a table top structure in which the top frame has a recess for the reception of the edge and adjacent underside of the top and also has a separate kerf for the reception of the tucked-in edge of the flexible top covering, said top and top covering being separately secured to the frame, as by glue for instance.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 represents a detail top plan view of my improved table top structure.
Fig. 2 represents a section taken in the plane of the line IIII of Fig. 1.
The table top 1 may be of any suitable still' material, such for instance as wood, and the covering 2 therefor may also be of any suitable flexible material, such for instance as leather, cloth, etc.
The table top frame 3 has an L-shaped recess along its inner-upper edge, the vertical wall 4 of which recess engages the edge of the table top 1 and the horizontal wall 5 of which recess engages the adjacent underside of the top 1. The table top may be permanently secured to the top frame, as for instance by glue.
The top frame 3"also has a kerf 6 along its upper face for the reception of the tucked-in edge of the flexible top coverin (Y 7 2.- This edge may be permanently secured within the kerf, as for instance by glue.
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a recess for the reception of the edge and adjacent underside of the top and a kerf forthe reception of the edge of the ileiible top covering, said kerf being spaced sufficiently from the recess to ensure a rigid edge support for the table top so that the edge as well, as the adjacent underside of the table top may be brought into intimate contact with the table top frame. This provides a very much stronger and more eflicient means for securing the table top-and flexible covering to the top frame than heretofore.-
What I claim is:
1. In a table top structure. a table top, a flexible covering therefor, a top frame having a recess for receiving and engaging both the edge'and adjacent underside of the top, said top frame also having a kerl' spaced from said recess for receiving the tucked-in edge of the top covering. and means for securing the top and covering in their respective recessand kerl;
2. In a table top structure, a table top. a. flexible covering therefor, a top frame ha ving-a recess for receiving and engaging hoth the edge and adjacent underside of the to said top frame also having a kerf sparededge for receiving and engaging both the edge and adjacent underside of the top. said top frame also having a kerf along its upper face spaced from said recess for receiving the tucked-in edge ofthe top covering, and means for securing the top and covering in their respective recess and kerf.
4. In a table top structure, a table top. a flcxibleeo'vering therefor, a top frame having an L-shaped recess along its inner upper edge for receiving and engaging both the edge and adjacent underside of the top, said top frame also having a kerf along its upper face spaced from said recess for receiving the tucked-in edge of the top covering, and
this 15th day of January, 1924.
ANDREI/V WAGNER.
