Description
' A. MADEN Pfiomus TEMPLATE June 16, 1925.
Filed Feb. 25, 1922 l atented June 16, 1925 name p ii ncatroaieaa meaty 25.1 922. Serial as. 539,315;
To all 107mm "may tandem:
Be it known that I, ALBERT MADEN, a-subject ofthe Kingof-(Brreat Britain, residing at Ivy Cottage, 14 Turnpike, Newchurch, Waterfoot, in the county of Lancaster, in England, have invented a new and useful Improved Profile Template, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved clamp or holder adapted to form or profile templates, and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient means for rigidly supporting a number of wires, rods, reeds or needles of equal dimensions in a parallel position. 7
Another object of my invention is to provide a clamp or holder whereby the wires or the like may be easily set to any desired contour.
A still further object of my invention is to provide the clamp or holder with a detachable handle which may be disconnected when not in use.
In my invention I provide a number of wires, rods, reeds or needles, composed of metal or any othersuitable substance which slide longitudinally between guides for setting the wires, rods, reeds 0r needles to any desired shape, said wires and guides are interposed with two elongated shaped plates or clamps having apertures near their respective ends for receiving two hollow studs which are screwed into the back or hinder plate, each stud having a rectangular shaped distance piece thereon said distance pieces mounted between the clamps;
Suitable tubular bars are connected across the wires, rods, reeds or needles and are secured to the distance pieces by means of rivets or screws for the purpose of supporting the wires, rods, reeds or needles in a parallel position.
The aforesaid clamps are lined on their inner faces with rubber or leather having a corrugated facing for the purpose of giving an increased frictional hold.
Detachable handles provided with a circumferential groove are inserted into the aforesaid studs and rigidly secured thereto by means of the said groove engaging with a ball catch attached to a set screw provided with a spiral spring, and said set screw passing through the hinder plate and hollow stud respectively.
The above described handles project out oneitlier side o f at am s a (were me opei-ator tohold my 'device. r
'ihe aforesaid" hollow studs have a iii-ale:
thread at their upper ends which said ends extend to a suitable distance out from the tion on line A, B, in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, is a detail of the handle and ball catch, and Fig.
4, is a detailsection of the clamp and cor-' rugated material.
My invention comprises a series of wires a or the like, which may be set to any desired form from a drawing or article of which the contour is required in forming a template, said wires a being actuated be tween lateral guide bars I) and are secured in a parallel position by means of clamps 0, r
and cl, set on each side as hereinafter de scribed.
The clamps 0, and (Z, are secured together by means of hollow studs 6, with distance piece. 7' thereon and interposed therebetween.
Two tubular bars 9, and g, are riveted or screwed at h to the plates 7 on each side of the clamps 0, and (Z, for holding the wires a in their proper alignment.
The hollow studs e screw into the back or hinder plate 0, and project out from the front clamp d, and in turn receive a spiral spring 2' and locking nut j, for the purpose of securing the wires a. in their pre-arranged positions.
The detachable handles it having a circumferential groove Z are inserted into the aforesaid hollow studs 6 and extend outwardly from each clamp 0, and cl, saidhandles being held by means of a ball catch m integral with a set screw it having a spiral spring '0 thereon, said screw a passing through the hinder plate 0 thereby causing the said catch m to engage in the groove Z.
The aforesaid clamps 0, and (Z, have a recess p as shown in Fig. 4, on their inner faces for receiving a rubber pad 9 having a corrugated face 7 for the purposes as hereinbefore described.
. I claim:
In a conformator gage, two clamp plates comprising a front plate and a hinder plate, each having a rubber pad on its inner side,
there being an aperture adjacent each end of each plate guide bars passing between said plates at the respective ends thereof, a series of wires adapted to move laterally between said plates and guided by said bars, studs screwed into the apertures in said hinder plate and projecting through the corresponding apertures in the front plate, distance pieces interposed between said plates and. surrounding said studs and ALBERT MADEN.
