Be it known that JOHN H. OLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Red Wing, in the county of Goodhue'and State of Minnesota, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Bobbing Gauges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvementsk in hair-bobbing gauges.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a gauge of this character which acts as a guide for the shears or other instruments employed and thus greatly facilitates and renders more accurate the operation of bobbing the hair.
A further object of my invention is to provide a. gauge of the character specified which may be easily and readily fitted to any head. l
A still further object of my invention is to provide a hair-bobbing gauge which may be adjusted to regulate the cutting of the hair to any desired length and vin which the bottom band may be adjusted circumferentially or vertically or tilted at an inclination to facilitate the operation of` cutting the hair longer in the back as desired by many people who curl their hair.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character speci- Y fied which is simple and economical in construction and highly efficient in operation.
y With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood. the same consists in the novel features of construction1 combination and arrangement of parts illus trated in the drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale,
Figure 1 is a side elevation, illustrating the application of my invention.
Figure 2 is a back view.
Figure 3 is a plan view.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1, the bottom band tilted down or lowered to facilitate the cutting of the hair longer in the back.
Referring to the drawings fora more particular description of my invention, and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates the bottom band and'B and C the upright,` side and back supporting straps, respectively.` The bottom band A is made in two corresponding sections 1 and 2, whoseback overlapping 60 ends 3 are provided with longitudinal regn istering slots 4to receive the shank 5 ofthe adjusting screw 6. The shank of this screw also extends through acorresponding` transverse opening in the lower end of the upright back supporting strap C for threaded engagement with a wing nut 8 which is tightened up to hold the overlapping ends ofthe bottom band sections in adjusted po sition. A washer 9 may also be employed 70 between the head 10 of the screw 6 and the inner' face of section 2 of the bottom band, the purpose of which will be apparent. The bottom sections 1 and 2 are pivotally con-V nected intermediate their ends but nearer their front ends, as at 11 to the lower ends of the side supporting straps B which permits the bottom band to be tiltedy down to facilitate the operation of cutting the hair longer at the .back as desired by many peon 80 ple who curl their hair.
Theupper overlapping ends 12 of the side supporting bands are formed with longitudinally disposed registering slots 13 and may be held in adjusted `position by the B5 screw andwing nut 14 The shank of screw 14 a longitudinal slot 16 formed in the upper front end of the back supporting strap C andthe cuts works against the outer face of said strap.' Hence, when' the nut 15 is tightcned up, the upper end of the back strap as well as the upper overlapping ends of the side straps are held in adjusted position. A washer 17 may be employed between the 95 head 18 of the screw 14 and the inner face of one of the side supporting straps if desired. y The side and back supporting straps as well asV the bottom band are preferably formedy of thin, flat, resilient metal strips and owing to thisl fact and the adjustable connections illustrated and described, the device may be easily and readily fitted to any head preparatory to the hair-bobbing operation; also the bottom band maybe raised yor lowered to' regulate the length of the hair or the bottom band tilted down to facilitate the operation of cutting the hair longer at the back than vat the front, as illus# trated in Figure 4 of the drawings.4
In practice the lower' edge of the bottom and. 15 respectively. also extends through band acts as a guide to the barber in cutting the hair evenly.
The upper' edges of the overlapping back ends of the bottom band are graduated as at 19; also the front edges of' the upper overlapping ends of the side supporting straps graduated as at 20 and yone edge oi the upper end of the back supporting strap graduated as at 21 to facilitate tlie'even adjustinentoi tlie device in fitting; tlie saine to tliev liead preparatory'to tlie liai'rbobbing operation F-'roin the foregoing description taken-vin connection Witlrtlie drawings, it is thought that tl'ie construction,y operation and advantages of-iny invention will be readily understood Witliout requiring a incre extended explanation.
Having described my invention( whaty I,
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-,ris: u
A liai'r bobbing gauge coinprising a bottom band, side land back supporting straps for said bettoin band and means for adjusting the latter vertically or circuini'er# enti'a-l'ly or tilting the saine either up or down in a Vertical plane.
