The invention comprises further features and combinations of parts to be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

to further assist in holding the leaves in J open spread positions and at the same time reinforce them, braces 14 are provided. The braces 14 consist of the hinged sections 15 and 16, the latter being hingedly connected to the lower rail of the luggage carrier frame, as at 17, while the former engage with notches 18 formed in the under surface of the leaf 10 of the table when the leaves 10 and 10 are in open spread positions. The braces, when the leaves are folded as in Figure 2, collapse and assume positions behind the two leaves. Since the sections 16 of the braces are hinged to the upper edge of the lower bar 6, the end edges of the braces abut the upper edge of the lower bar 6, thereby supporting the braces in perpendicular positions when the sections of the braces are folded and the leaves folded as in Figure 4. In this way, the sections and 16 of the braces are prevented from falling inwardly upon the runningboard.

Carried by the outer face of the lower bar 6 of the frame is a thumb-screw 20 and hingedly mounted adjacent the lower portion of the lower bar or rail 6 of the luggage carrier frame is a clasp or strap 19. This clasp or strap has an elongated opening through which the thumb-screw 20 passes when imparting a partial or half turn to the thumb-screw, the edge of the head of the thumb-screw overlies the clasp and holds it in a latched position, thereby retaining the leaves in collapsed positions due to the fact that the end portion of the clasp overlies the leaves when folded.

When the leaves are unfastened by turning the thumb-screw 20 so that the head thereof will register with the slot in the clasp, the leaves may be disposed in horizontal extended positions and the braces placed to re-- inforce the leaves. The hooks 12, when the leaves are extended in horizontal spread positions, engage with the thumb-screws 13, thereby further assisting in holding the leaves in position.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed is? 1.'In a combined folding table and luggage carrier for automobiles, the combination with a frame secured to the outer edges of the running-board and the fenders, of folding table leaves, one being hingedly mounted on the upper edge of the frame, said table leaves being hingedly united whereby their adjacent edges may abut and thereby reinforce and support the table, leaves in horizontal positions.

2. In a combined folding table and luggage carrier for automobiles, the combination with a frame secured to the outer edges of the running-board and the fenders, of

the leaves are folded, and by folding table leaves, one being hingedly mounted on the upper edge of the frame, said table leaves being hingedly united whereby their adjacent edges may abut and thereby reinforce and support the table leaves in horizontal positions, and means for reinforcing and supporting the table leaves when 7 extended horizontally.

3. In a combined folding table and luggage carrier for automobiles, the combination with a frame secured to the outer edges of the running-board and fenders, of folding table leaves mounted upon the upper rail of said frame, one leaf being foldable upon the other which, in turn, folds outwardly and downwardly adjacent the outer face of the frame, means for reinforcing and supporting the table leaves in horizon tal extended positions, a fastener carried by the lower part of the frame, and means also carried by the lower part of the frame cooperating with the fastener for holding the leaves in collapsed positions.

4. In a combined folding table and luggage carrier for automobiles, the combination with a frame secured to the outer edges of the running-board and fenders, of a pair of table leaves, one being hingedly mounted on the upper edge of said frame, said leaves being hingedly united, the construction and arrangement of the hinges uniting the leaves being such that the adjacent edges of the leaves abut, thereby reinforcing each other when in horizontal positions, collapsible braces for supporting the leaves in horizontal open spread positions, meansadditionally connecting one of the leaves to'the frame and additionally reinforcing them, said leaves being foldable adjacent the out er face of the frame while the braces may be collapsed behind the leaves, and means for holding the leaves in said collapsed positions.
