Be it known that. I, RAYMOND B. GIL- CHRIST, a citizen of the United States, and
- a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented it constituents. of the drink to be mixed are usually poured into a receptacle which is generally designated a shaker, from many different containers disposed away from. the mixer. The receptacle with these constituents therein is brought to the mixer and placed in operative relation "thereto and isremoved from the machine after each mixing operation, to discharge its contents. This is rendered necessary, because so. many different ingredients and flavors are used in making drinks that they are, in nearly all cases, mixed individually. It is usually necessary to run the agitator for a considerable period to propfore, -'it is desirable that provision be made for'reta-ining the receptacle and agitator in operative relation to' permit the dispenser to perform other duties during the mixing operation. In drink'mixing, it thus becomes necessary to frequently place the receptacle containing the constituents into cooperative relation to the agitator and to withdraw it from the machine to discharge its contents and cleanse thereceptacle between mixing operations.
A desideratum in this art is to expedite and simplify the operations necessary to bring the receptacle and agitator into cooperative relation, to maintain themin such relation, in starting and stopping of the motor and the removal of the receptacle. Heretofore, inmachines whereof I am aware (excepting those exhibited in concurrently pending applications), it has been necessary in their use to manually manipnlate'the rcceptacle into operative position and-withdfaw it therefrom and to additionally perform some separate step or operation, such as lowering the motor and agitator together, or shifting the agitator and its shaft into the receptacle and relatively to the motor, or raising and locking a receptacle-support to establish and maintain cooperative relation of the receptacle and agitator or to control the operatlon of the machine. Another desideratum in this art is tosimplify the machine by dispensing with movable connections in and for the driving mechanism for the agitator.
. One object of the present invention is to provide an improved drink mixer in which pensed with and in which manual shift of the'reeeptacle is utilized to completely conthese additional operations or steps are distrol the operation of the machine and to secure itand the agitator in cooperative relation. The invention is exemplified in a machine comprising an electric motor 8 which is supported at'the upper end of a standard 9 which serves as a stationary support for the motor. Its lower end isrigid with a base 10 which is usually adapted to rest. on a counter or table. A shaft 11 secured to the rotor of the motor projects downwardly from. the motor case and is provided at its lower end with a suitable agitator 12 for mixing the constituents of a drink, as
well understood in the art. Shaft 11 is of sufiicient length, so that the agitator will reach the constituents of a, drink to be mixed near-thebottom of anopen topped receptacle 19 held below the motor and containing said constituents.
There is sufliclent clearance below the agitator to permit the receptacle 19 to 'be placed beneathand around the agitator without spillin its contents and without the necessity of lowering the agitator into the receptacle. In the present invention, the relationship between the agitator and the motor or between the agitator and the base are not varied and the receptacle only is manipulated in e'stablishing cooperative relationship between the case 15, containing an, electrical switch of usual. construction and having its members connected to control the motor 8, 1s firmly secured to the'outslde of the motor-casing.

When the receptacle has been lowered sufliciently to release the cam 37, spring 35 will restore the switchlever 32 and cause the spring-pressed button 15 to be lowered sufliciently to open the motor-switch and causethe motor to stop.
' The invention exemplifies a drink-mixer in which the motor and agitator are maintained in fixed relation and in which placement of the receptaclein operative position causes it to be automatically secured in position for operation; in which the receptacle is supported and locked in operative position entirely 'by .means adjacent its upper end, so that no lower support or shelf is necessary; in whichfa spring-pressed member locks the receptacle in operative position; in which placement andremoval of the receptacle cause the receptacle to be automatically locked and released and automatically control the motor switch and in which the receptacle is guided intofandout of operative position.

1. In a machine of the character described, the'combination of a motor, an agitator driven thereby and supportedfrom above with sufficient clearance to permit a recep table with an open top to be placedinto operative position around the agitator, and

In a machine of the character described,- the combination of a motor, an agitator driven thereby and supported from above with sufficient clearance topermit a receptacle with an open top to be placed into operative position around the agitator, means to rock the receptacle in operative position comprising members to engage the innerand outer sides of the upper portion of the receptacle, 'one of said members being spring-pressed, and means to guide the receptacle while manuallysupported to said locking means.
7 .In a machine of the character described, the combination of a motor, an agitator driven thereby and supported from above with'suflicient clearance to permit a receptacle with an open top to be placed into operative position around the agitator,

In a machine of the character described, the combination of a stationary support, a motor mounted at the upper, end of the support, an agitator driven by the motor and supported from above with suflicient clearance to .permit a receptacle with an open top to be placed into operative position around the agitator, means to secure the receptacle in operative position comprising an interfitting connection: between the side of the receptacle and the support and a guid on the support to direct the receptacle while it is manually shifted to said securing means j '17.
