Description
NITED STATES PATENT Grrrca ISAAC SAALFELDT, OF YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent-No. 153,683, dated August 4, 1874; application filed J une 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ISAAC SAALFELDT, of the city of Ypsilanti, county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Medical Compound, by me called DR. IsAAc SAALFELDTs Purgative Pills, and that the following is a full, clear, and accurate description thereof and of the method of compounding and using the same.
The nature of my invention relates to a vegetable medical compound in the form of at cathartic or purgative pill, designed to be used as a blood-purifving remedy, and for liver complaint, constipation, and other complaints arisin g from a disordered condition of the blood.
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to manufacture and use my medical compound, I will proceed to describe the same.
In preparing my medical compound, I take equal parts of rhamnus cathartica (buckthornberries) and extractum aloes, pulverized to a powder, and moisten with soft water, so that the compound may readily be made into pills, the pills to be of such size as to contain each one and one-half grain of buckthorn-berries, and one and one-half grain of extract of aloes.
The pills thus constructed are covered with a smooth coating of sugar, using about one grain of sugar to each pill.
The dose for an adult person is two pills, to be taken at night before retiring, in ordinary cases and for the diseases to which my invention is adapted; but the judgment of the physician must be used as with other medicines, and the dose may be regulated to suit the age or strength of the patient.
My compound acts both as a cathartic and a blood-purifier, and will be found a most efficient remedy in all bilious and blood diseases.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to have invented, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The medical compound, composed of equal parts, rhamnus cathartica and extract of aloes, when compounded and used substantially as above described, and for the purposes set forth.
Dated June 9, A. D. 187 4.
ISAAC SAALFELDT.
