LARD-LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 15,864, dated July 15, 1856.

Be it known that I, JEREMIAH S. SENSENY, of the borough of Chambersburg, in the county of Franklin and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented a new and Improved Lard-Lamp; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereof.

In the operation of my invention the lamp having been constructed as described, the lard, tallow, or oil is first heated to a liquid state, the lamp is for the first time filled by lifting the top and pouring the fluid into the reservoir, and the spigot is turned to let the fluid flow into the burner Z, and by means of it the flow can be regulated according to the quantity consumed. After the lamp is filled by the fluid lard or oil, it can be refilled at any time without liquefying the lard or oil, which is a great saving in time, and expense in the summer, as there will be no need of kindling a fire for the purpose of heating the fluid before the lamp is refilled. As I can feed my lamp with the lard or oil in a hard state, I thus am enabled to construct a lamp self-feeding and heating capable of being filled by lard or tallow in a hard state, which has not yet been done to my knowledge. I also make a new article of manufacture hitherto not brought into the market.
I do not claim a selfheating lamp simply, as this has been done by C. IVilhelm in his patent of April 6th 1842, and by J. Smith and J. Stonecifer in their patent of August 8th 1854. Nor do I claim simply the use of a spigot for regulating a flow of the material to the lamp as this is done by C. 1Llieidhof, in his patent of July 27th, 1852,
What I do claim is:
The arrangement and construction of a lamp as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
