Description
Filed March 25, 1924- Patented May 5, 1925. r
- UNITED STATES PATENT o'rrlcs.
WILLIAM SCHIMID, OF COLDWATER, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO CASKEY-DUPREE MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF COLDWATER, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
GL1]? ETRUCTURE.
Application filed March 25, 1924. Serial No. 701,873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SCHMID, a
citizen of the United States, residing at tegrally formed therewith for clinching en-.
gagement with the" gripping member, preferably at the bi ht of the latter. The base member is also esirably formed with other prongs for assembling it with a mounting board, and ears for engaging the gripping member to ensure its fixed location with respect to the base member.
By means of my invention, the gripping member may be made ot highly tempered spring steel, itself not adapted for clinching engagement with the 'mountlng board, the sotter metal base supplying this deficiency.
The prongs upon the base that clinch the s ring gripping member are so related to the prongs that couple the base with the mounting board as to reduce to a minimum any tendency to disturb the assembly of the base with the gripping member and mount ing board.
The invention will be more fully explained in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of two sets of clips particularly adapted to hold fuse containing or other cartridges; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a bottom view, on a smaller scale; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view illustrating the gripping and base members of the'clip in separated relation.
Like parts are indicated by similar characters of reference throughout the diflerent figures.
Each clip structure illustrated includes a cli base 1 having two oppositely directed pairs of. clinching prongs 2, 2; 3, 3' integrally formed therewith but of strip metal that is suciently soft to enable these prongs .to remain substantially in the shapes to which they are bent. The pair of prongs 2, 2 is arranged crosswise of the clip base at an intermediate portion thereof and the other pair 3, 3 is arranged len thwise of the clip base at one end thereo The U shaped gripping member 4 is formed of relatively hard spring metal, such as highly tempered spring steel, whose bight is clinched by the latter prongs against the clip base which also has ears 5 into rally formed therewith that engage the si es of the grippin member at its bight to ensure the fixed re ation of the gripping member with its base. A mounting board 10 is clinched by the remaining prongs 2, 2 that pass through holes in the board. This board is formed with grooves 7 in its bottom that receive the ends of the prongs 2, 2' of those clip bases that are aligned. Binding screws 8 pass through the clip bases freely into the holes 9 in the mounting board 10, these screws being preferably threaded into the clip bases.
By the construct-ion and arrangement illustrated, the gripping members of the clips are held firmly in assembly with the mounting board, any tendency to disturb this relation being overcome when the fuse contain- 'ing or other cartridges 10 are withdrawn.
It is obvious that changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following:
1. A clip structure including a clip base having two oppositely directed pairs of clinching prongs integrally formed with the clip base which is made of metal suiiiciently soft to enable said prongs to remain substantially in the shapes to which they are bent, one of these pairsof prongs being arranged crosswise of the clip base at an intermediate portion thereof and the other pair being arranged lengthwise of the clip base atone end thereof; a U shaped gripping member formed of relatively hard spring metal whose bight is clinched by the latter prongs against the clip base; and a mounting board with which the remaining prongs are clinched.
2. A clip structure including a U shaped Q Lemme gripping member made of spring metal; and member formed of softer metal and having a base member formed of softer metal and a prong formation integrally formed therehaving a prong formation integrally formed With and in clinching engagement with the 10 therewith and in clinching engagement with gripping member. I 5 the bight of the gripping member. In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe 3. A clip structure including a gripping my name.
member made of spring metal; and a base WILEIAM SCHMID.
