To all whom it may concern.
ie it known that I, .ALFRED I-I. HUM- runny, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, county of New York. State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Radiating Elements for Gas Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in radiating elements for gas heaters.
The main objects of this invention are:
To provide an improved foraminated tubular radiating element for gas heaters which is attractive in appearance and very durable in use.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of thisapplication, in which:

designed by me for use in gas stoves or gas heaters of the type shown in Letters Patent No. 1,280,740, issued to me on the eighth day of October, 1918.
My improved radiating element as shown in Fig. I consists of a back portion 1 and a con'lplementary front portion 2, both molded from earthy material having their edges 3 and 4: pressed together while still in the plastic state and united by firing. The back portion has horizontal spaced rows of slotlike openings 7 therein providing the horizontal cross portions and the vertical portions 6 between the slots. Spurs 8 project inwardly from these vertical and cross portions.
The front consists of the diagonally disposed crossed bars and the side or longitudinal bars 9. These bars have inwardly projecting spurs 1O thereon.
The front and back portion are formed by molds consisting of the female mold 11 for the back and 12 for the front, and the male molds 13 for the back and 14 for the front adapted to coact as shown in Fig. III.
The material from which the parts are molded is preferably in the form of strips 15 and 16, the strip 15 from which the back member is formed being preferably of uncolored earthy material while the strip 16 has strips 17 of colored material arranged thereon so that the completed article has an uncolorcd back portion and a front portion having colored parts formed by incorporating therein colored earthy material of the same composition as the radiating element.
The uncolorcd back portions of the radiants form an effective background for the colored front portion, and the colored front portions are not likely to show discoloration in use.
By forming the front and back portions of the radiants as I have described the radiants are durable and not likely to be broken in use although formed of comparatively fragile material.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As an article of manufacture a foraminated tubular radiating element for gas stoves consisting of front and back portions 10 material incorporated in and forming a part thereof, said element being otherwise uncolored.
