Patented Apr., 28, i925@ DANIEL E. GOTA, 0F WALTHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.

TRAFFIC stenen.

Application filed December 10, 1921; Serial No. 521,435.

To all wwm t may concern.'

Re it known that I, DANIEL E. GOTA, a citizen of the United States, residing at lllalthannin the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traffic` Signals; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,`c lear,'and exact description of the invention', such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Drivers of motor vehicles generally signal,

their intention of slowing, stopping or turning by means of the hand whichis extended and moved according to a prearranged code.

This is satisfactory in daylight, but isnot` satisfactory after nightfall because the darknessprecludes the hand being seen to any appreciable distance.

The present invention has for its object to render the hand visible after dark when utilized for 'purposes of signaling when In ac cordance with the invention, a reflector is worn upon the back of the hand or wrist, whereby to utilize rays of light to render the hand visible when signaling with the result thatv hand signaling after dark may be as effec'- tive as during` the day.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood. l y

lVhile the .drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that .in adapting-the same to meet different conditions and Y requirements, A'various changes in the form. proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to.l

without departing from the vnature of the invention.

Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application,

Figure l is a detail view of the'human hand illustrative of the invention, and having-alreector applied to the back thereof7 Figure 2 is a detailed view of a modifica- .tionin which the reflectorhas a corrugated Y surface, and

Figure 3 is a sectional detail. p Corresponding and like parts are referred to in fthe following description yand designated in theseveral views of by like reference characters.

In accordance with the invention, the re- Hector may be plain, as indicated in Figure l, or corrugated, as illustrated-'in Figure2.

the drawings` veniently and comfortably worn vupon the back of the hand or wrist, as desired. The numeral l designates the plain reflector and 2l the corrugated reflector. VA suitable base 3 receives the reflector and servesas means for attaching the same to the hand or wrist. The base 3 may consist of a strap, mitten or glove and the reflectormay be attached thereto in any referred way. In the presentinstance, t ie base 3 is shown as consisting of a piece of flexible material such as textile, having opposed tabs 4 which are connected by an elastic web or tape 5 so as yto encircle the hand or wrist and vret-ain the device in the required adjusted position.

The reflector is slightly curved between opposite edges to conform to the hand or wrist so as to lfit the same closely and avoid. The surface ofthe causing discomfort. mirror'is highly polished so as to reflect rays of light falling thereon, whereby t0 render the hand visible when extended and in theact of signaling. f A

t Itis the intention "thatthe driver of a.

motor vehicle wear the device upon the back I'Of'the hand or wrist after lnightfall so that when the hand is extended to give a signal,

the same is made visible by the rays Vof light lfalling upon the reflector and projected thereby in the manipulation of the hand to' render the latter, visible and enable the intention of the driver to be conveyed to the operator of a vehicle `in the rear in subas practiced nal transversely of the hand, and an elastic tape spanning and secured to said tabs. Intestimony whereof I ailix my signature in presencey of two witnesses.
