This lIlVQlriCll is in the way of an extension table, all the obiect 1s to provide a table having disappearing end leaves w nich may he slid underneath the'niain table top when not de ired for use, may be pulled out for the purpose of lengthening the table, when desired.
Another object is to provide a table whi h may be instantly transformed from a rectangular form to an oval form.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view showing the table in closed form.
Figure 2 is longitudinal vertical section showing one table leaf drawn out and the other in position to be pushed under table top.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view showing the table in closed form.
Figure l is an enlarged detail of the grooved lea-f guide bars.
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail of the end bars.
In carrying out the invention a table frame 1. is provided, the same including the side bars 2, end bars 8 and legs 4;; the end bars having leaf arm slots 9 cut therein. Leaf guide bars 5 are extended between the end bars 3 inside the legs 4; said guide bars are reduced attheir ends to form leaf recesses 6; grooves 7 and 8 joined at their outer ends, a purpose which will be ater explained. The top board 8 is secured in place upon the guide bars 5. Leaf arms 10 are provided, adapted to slide into the leaf arms slots 9; the ends 13 of said arms having rollers 1% adapted to siidingly engage the grooves 7 and 8 of the guide bars 5, for the purpose of raising or lowering the table top 8 to permit the leaves 11 to be drawn out or pushed in as the 17, 1923. Serial No. 663,039.
case may be. Upon these arms 10 are fastened end leaves'll, which are preferably rounded off on their outer corners as shown at 12, so that when the leaves are pulled out for use, they cause the otherwise rectangular table to assume an oval shape at its ends. l-Vhen not desired for use, the leaves 11 may he slid back beneath the top and within the leaf recesses 6, the arms 10 passing through the slots 9 for this purpose. Elie leaf guide bars 5 serve to hold the leaf arms in straight position, and for raising or lowering top as desired. Side bar slides 15 are provided having slots 16 adapted toengage the dowels 1'? of the side bars 2. The side bar slides are fastened to the top 8, to'prevent said top of being lifted clear of the frame 1; also to give the table a finished appearance when not in use.
While I have herein described a certain specific manner and method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor details, not departingfrom the spirit of my invention, so as best to construct a practical device for the purpose. intended, as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A. table of the kind described, comprising side bars, end bars, legs, top board, side bar slides and leaf guide bars, the said guide bars being reduced on their upper sides at the ends thereof to form leaf recesses, and the end bars having lea-f arm slots cut therein; leaf guide bars extended between the end bars inside the legs and having grooves out therein; leaf arms adapted to slide in the leaf arm slots and rollers at their ends adapted to slide in the leaf guide bar grooves; and end leaves fastened upon the said leaf arms, the said leaves being rounded off at their outer corners.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ANTHONY PETRARCA.
