ALONZO IRONS AND LEWIS CLAYTON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOILER-COVERINGSY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 153,257, dated July 21, 1874; application tiled May 29,1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ALONZO IRoNs and LEWIS CLAYTON, of the city and county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Boiler-Covering, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be. fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figurel is a longitudinal sectional elevation of a small section of boiler-covering constructed according to my invention 5 and Fig. 2 is a plan view of a portion of the covering complete, and another portion representing only the wire-cloth.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a web of coarse wire-cloth with short studs B, secured to it by washers C, to form an inside fastening and prevent the sweating of the boiler, when cold, from loosening the cement. E represents the non-conducting compound applied to the wirecloth, and thus supported a short distance from the l boiler-shell to provide a dead-air space between it and the shell, and to prevent the compound from breaking by the contracting and expanding of the shell.
The wire-cloth will be first applied and fitted to the boiler, and then the compound will be spread on it in a plastic state. The dead-air space largely aids in retaining the heat ofthe boiler.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new desire to secure by Letters Patent- The described combination, with wire-cloth A and non-conducting cement E, of studs B and washers O O, arranged as described, to forni an inside fastening and thus prevent the sweat ofthe boiler, when cold, from loosening' the cement.
