h-arrows, and like .implements-,s and hasforf one of its objects to provide a device of'lth-ischaracter including standard having a holder carr in@ a harrow` toothfand flater-all i Y e y directed cutters, and means-for adjustabl-y coupling 'theY` cutters to the-standard ori disconnecting'tlrem tlierefronras required;
lVi'tlrthese and other objects in view, theinven-tion consists-1n certai-n novel-'features of constructio-nf as.- herein-after.- shown and descrilfied and l then speciiiiclally` pointed out' in the claims', and inthe-drawings illustrative-of@ the preferred embodiment of they inventio-n.
Figure 1-is awside elevationo-f one of the improved devicesatta-@hed `to conventional` sup-porting frame, the-frame members bein-g.v

Fig. 2 is a rearl view of one o-fitheim proved toothA standards.
Fig. 3 is a plan view ofy a part of the supporting frame of a conventional harrow with a pair of the improved devices applied.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional elevation enlarged.
Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4 looking in the direction of the arrow.
Fig. G is a view similar to Fig. 5 with the cutter carrying bar detached. y
Fig. 7 is an enlarged elevation ofthe double acting clamp member.
Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 1, illus? may be employed in eaclr hlaarowandare` ranged-dn the ordinary Bearing upoiafl the. frwardi facer of eachv standaard 10.- isea.- holden devices-let.havingftheedges.- .directed laterally 'tol `form flanges@ 15 to..embvrace the edgessof'l tlre stiaaldardfandx thus reta-inf. :the hol-der Vfro-na `laterazl displace` ment upon.:the standard'fwhile: aztnthe vsailnetime permitting adjustment longitudinally. ofthestan-dard;
f Formed.' upon the` helder 414 are;v guiide ribs i 16mm/gral' witli the la'ngesf 15-an;d overV hanging-the holder and thestandard'10',E as:
shown 2in Figures 5 land Disposed between-the'guideribs-y 16V-and the standard' 10 is aclamp lplate-17, ther-latter having a. central yboss 18;'throuigl-r whicht and the bodyofithc platea threaded aperture isfformedto4 receive-a setlscrew 19.
By thisarrangement when-thesetl screw. is actuated, strain will be imparted between the-standard and the holder-to adjustabily'- cla-mp the latter in position upon the standard.y
A shovel 13 is shown riveted-:atQQ'to the' lowel` end of thfe--ho'l-der- 14; which .is f the preferable attaching means.-
The forward face1v oft-he -holder- 1li-is enlarged as shown at 121-- withI its outer- 'falceA curved to merge without obstruction into the forward face of the shovel, and thus support the 'shovel from upward displacement without producing an obstruction to the free passage of the shovel through the earth.
Adapted to bear against the rear face of the standard 10 and betweenthe standard and the clamp kplate 17 is a bar 21 having a single laterally directed knife edged cutter 22, as in Figs 1, 2, 3 and 4, or two diverging knife edged cutters 24 as shown in Figs. 8, 9, 10 and 11.
The plate 17 is formed with diametrically disposed opposite enlargements 23, as sho-wn.
`When the bar 21 is employed twoy thicknesses of material will be disposed between the ribs 16 and the standard 10, and the plate 17 will be arranged as shown in Figures 2, 3,
1, 5 and 9 with the enlargements 23 between the confronting edges of the ribs 16, but when the bar 21 and its attached cutter 22 are not employed, the plate 17 will be turned one-fourth aro-und to bring the enlargements 23 between the ribs 16 and the standard 10, the enlargements thus taking f the place of the bar 21, so that the-set screw 1,9 y
will operate equally well whether the bar be employed or not.
IVhen thus arranged and the set screw 19 actuated, the three parts 10, 14 and 21 together with their attached portions 13 and 22 will be iirmly clamped together and in-` dependently adjustable, or the two parts 10 and 14 only may be clamped together with equal facility, as will be obvious and shown in Figure 6.
In Figures 8, 9, 10 and 11 a modification in the construction of the cutter portion oit the device is shown consisting in forming a rearward extension 25 at the lower end of the bar 21, and riveting or otherwise attaching the branching cutter 24 thereto as shown at 26. The portions 21 and 25 are supported or reinforced by a web 27, as shown.
By this means the ground is worked7 at each side of the furrow formed by the shovel 13, whereas with the structure shown in Figures 1, 2, and 4, the ground is worked at one side only ot the shovel.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be manufactured of any suitable material and ot' any suitable size.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specifications, but it will be understood that modifications within the sco-pe of the claims may be made in the construction Without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any oft' its advantages.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
1. In a harrow, a tooth standard, a holder adjustably engaging said standard and having guide ribs and carrying a harrow tooth, a clamp plate engaged by said guide ribs, and means for applying strain between said guide ribs, plate and standard.
2. In a harrow a tooth standard, a holder adjustably engaging said standard and having guide ribs and carrying a harrow tooth, a clamp plate engaged by said guide ribs, and a set screw operating through said clamp plate to apply strain between said guide ribs, plate and standard.
3. In a harrow a. tooth standard, a holder adjustably engaging said standard and having guide ribs and carrying a harrow tooth, a clamp plate engaged by said guide ribs, a bar engaged by said guide ribs and carrying a rearwardly extending cutter member, and means for applying strain between said guide ribs, plate, standard and cutter carrying bar.
4. In a harrow, a tooth standard, a holder adjustably engaging said standard and having guide ribs and carrying a harrow tooth, a clamp plate engaged by said guide ribs and with the diametrically opposite edges increased in thickness,a bar engaged by said guide ribs and carrying a rearwardly extending cutter member, and a set screw operating through said clamp plate and bearing against the bar when the clamp plate is disposed with the thickened portions between the guide ribs, and bearing against the standard when the bar is withdrawn and thethickened port-ions disposed beneath the guide ribs.
-In testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature hereto.
PHILIP SIMONS.
