" ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT r'onin nnormc LIGHTS.
Application and April 4, 1924. Serial 1*1"o. 7 04,146.
To all whom it may cone-c2 77.:
Be it known-that- I, SIDNEY M. ISRAEL,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of lVoodhaven, county of Queens, city and State of New York, have invented certai r new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Supports for Electric Lights, otwhich the following is a specification suliicient to enable those skilled in the art to which the invent-ion appertains to utilize the same.
My imlprovements relate to the class of electric light fixtures designated in Letters Patent No. 1,475,768, issued to me Nov. 21, 1923, such fixture-s being utilized more particularly for the support of electric 'lamp bulbs intended tosimulate the use of candles in a manner now well known in the art, my present invention being designed -toadapt the type of fixture describedand claimed in said Letters Patent more effectually to the exigencies and requirements of actual use, and consisting in'fthe "specific construction, combination' and arrangement of parts described and claimedherein whereby such adaptability is attained, and the fix' ture rendered more positive in character, all as hereinafter fullyset forth. y
In. the accompanying drawings I exemplify a practical embodiment of the essential features of'mfy invention in ,airadjustable lamp support consisting of acne-piece basic section and a one-piece extension section, each of said sections being made from a blank of sheet metal die formed and bent into the requisite shapes, with interlocking parts as related to each other. although I do not limit myself to the identical configuration of parts thereof shown, since modifications in I minor details and mechanical expedients may be, resorted to with like result, and without departing from the spirit and intent ofmy lamp socket provided with two securing screws; y

i Fig. 6, is =1 sectional elevation taken upon plane of line 66 Fig. 5:
lamp support shown in Fig. 7. is a view of the metallic blank'used in the, formation ofthe basic section of my lamp support;
V Fig. 8, is a front elevation'of saidblank' as bent into the requisite shape-for use.
in conjunction with the upper ora djustable fixture of my lamp support;

v Fig. 15, is an enlarged view of the lower ly illustrate the interlocking of the conjunctive edges of the tubular socket of said base 'ineinber;
Figs! 16 and 17. are views similar to Fig.
' socket arms such as shown in Figs. 3 and 4'. The'lower b21810. orzsocket member B, of-
my improved extensible lamp support is formed from a single blank of sheet metal,
stamped out substantially as shown in Figs.
7and 14, and is then bent into tubular form as shown more particularly in Fig. 19, ofthe drawings. Said blank is formed with portion of said basic member, to more clear- 15, showing modifications in the formation ,of the lnterlocking edges of said tubular portion ,of the basic member;
tongues b, 7),- which are inturned for the pur pose of maintaining the alignment of the ad ustable upper member A, of the device.
The lower part of the blank B, is formed with lateral extensions Z), 6, which are inturned to form the cylindrical socket 12 which is internally screw threaded as shown more particularly in Fig. 6, for attachment to the usual tubular wire conduit, not shown. In order to stiffen and reinforce this threaded cylindrical socket IF, it is formed with an annular head I); and in order to prevent any possibility of the separating apart of the abutting edges of the cylindrical socket 5 I prefer to form the latter with inter locking parts, substantially as indicated in Figs. 13, 14:, 15, 16 and 17 of the drawings, in which Z), represents a coupling tongue, and 6 a correspondingly shaped recess for the reception of, and engagement with, said tongue 6 Thus the perfect cylindrical shape of the screw socket I), is assured against lateral strain upon the socket member B, and reinforced against the action of the binding screw b, which latter is provided forthe purpose of preventing the turning of said socket member B, on its central longitudinal axis after attachment to the aforesaid electric wire conduit. The upper part of the basic member B, is also provided with a set and binding screw 6 by means of which the upper or lamp socket section A, of the device is adjustably held in position on the basic section B, as shown more particularly in Fig. 6, of the drawings, said set screw Z2 acting in conjunction with the inturned lugs Z), Z), in this respect.
The adjustive upper section A, of the device, to which the lamp socket S, is attached in use, is also formed from a single blank of sheet metal such as shown in Figs. 9 and 11, of the drawings, the only difference in the two shapes of blanks shown being that the bracket extensions a, a, are longer in that shown in Fig. 9, for the purpose of utilization as a means of securing the lamp socket S, between them by means of a single couplingscrew 70, as indicated in Figs. 1, 2
socket supporting arms a, a, the device is adapted to the support of lamp sockets of various manufacture.
. The blank A, is also formed with lateral lugs 66., a, adjacent to the extensions a, a, which lugs a, a, are inturned and beaded to reinforce said lamp socket supporting arms a, a, as shown more particularly in Fig. 6, of the drawings, which figure also illustrates the function of the inturned lugs a (L in acting as stops in conjunction with the in turned tongues 6, Z), of the basic member B, to prevent the separation of the two members A, B, of the device.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, an adjustable support for electric lamps ofthe char acter designated, comprising a basic member consisting of a single. piece of sheet metal bent into tubular shape and formed with an internally threaded and annularly beaded socket at its lower extremity, and with inturned retaining lugs at its upper extremity, a set screw positioned to act in conjunction with said internally threaded socket, an adjustable member consisting of a single pieceof sheet metal, said adjustable member being mounted upon said basic member and formed with extension arms for attachment to a lamp socket, and also being formed with inturned stop lugs and an adjustable set screw mounted on the upper portion of the basic member and bearing against said adjustable member, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
