UNITED STATES 1,529,937 PATENT OFFICE.
CAMILLE A. TURCOTTE,
COMBINED CORSET AND Application filed May 18,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAMILLE A. TURCOTTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Corset and Trousers Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined corset and trousers supporter particularly adapted for men.
An object of the invention is to provide a band adapted to encircle the body at the hips and above the hips to act as a trousers supporter and to support the abdomen and the back.
Another object of this invention is to provide a body encircling band having pads attached to the hip portions for supporting and holding the trousers in proper position so they will make a neat appearance on the wearer.
A further object of the invention is to provide a body encircling band with stifiening ribs disposed at an angle in the band so positioned that the will effectually support the abdomen and t e back over the portion where the kidneys are located.
The invention includes other features which are pointed out in detail with the construction of the band in the following description and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a front view of the invention positioned on the wearer,
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the back portion of the band on the wearer,
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail view of the ri%l 1t half of the band,
ig. 4 is a side elevation illustrating the inner side of one of the sections of the band.
Figure 5 is a detail section showing the pad construction.
l indicates a body encircling band formed in halves and provided in the rear portion with lacing strips 2- adapted to receive a lace 3 for fastening the halves of the band together in the rear. Fastener strips 4 are provided at the forward juncture of the halves of the band and carry separable fasteners -5 to removably fasten the band to ether so that it may be easily applied and removed from the body. Each half of the band is constructed of a plurality of longitudinal membets 6 connected and held in spaced re- OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.

lation by transverse members -7. The lower longitudinal member 6 of each half is provided in the central portion with an elastic section 8- adapted to compensate for the large dimension about the hips when the band is in position on the wearer. Each half of the band is provided in the portion which overlies the abdomen with a stiffening rib 9 forming a brace and support therefor and in the portion near the lacing strips 2 with a stiffening rib 10 fitting the small of the back and overlying the kidneys for holding the same in place. It will be seen that the stifiening strips 10 not only brace the kidneys, but also prevent creasing of the band. Shoulder straps 11 provided with elastic sections -12- are attached to the band with the elastic sections in the rear and with an adjustable and removable connection --13- in the front portion which also has an elastic connection -14- with the front of the hand, one band being attached to each half of the body encircling band. The straps are connected together by a strip 15- positioned just below the neck in the portion of the straps on the back.
Trouser supporting pads -16- are connected to the band 1- over the hip portions along the line indicated at 17 forming a connection with the band and are also connected in the front portion by stitching or otherwise as indicated at -18. The body of the pad is formed of a tubular container 19 and a container -20- decreasing in width toward the front and back, each container being filled with stuffing material as indicated at 21 in Figure 5. These containers are stitched together and to the strip forming the connection -17- as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 3. The bead 19- or tubular container is provided to form a ledge adapted to receive the bottom edge of a belt ordinarily used for supporting the trousers which forms a stop to the further downward movement of the belt and the trousers, while the pad -20 fills out the hip portion of the trousers to make then hang properly on the wearer and present a neat appearance.
As above pointed out it will be clear that the band and the attached pads form a combined trouser supporter and body brace which may be easily and quickly applied or removed from the body and which will be comfortable to the wearer.
In the" event that the separable fastener connection 5 is unfa'ste'r'ledand the wearer still desires to wear the band an adjustable connection 22 is provided along the upper edge of the band to hold the same in position on the body but which will not bind the body as when the connection -5 is used.
What is claimed is:
1. A combined abdomen and trouser support comprising at waist encirclin member having a p'air of separate waist encircling bands; and separate hip ads of alcuete formation carried-by the bends and being gradually decreased in thi'clmess toward their lower edges and being decreased in width toward their ends, the ends of the pads being spaced substantial distances ficih each other, the upper edges of said pads being "piovided with arcuate trouser supporting ledges, 'said led'ges being spaced from the upper edge of the waist encircling member whereby to permit of the engagement of the belt encircled portion of the trousers with the Waist encircling member above the ledges.
9. A combined abdomen and trouser support comprising at waist encircling member, spaced ledges secured to the waist encircling member between the upper and lower edges hereof ate adapted to limit the downward movement of the trouser su' frp'orting belt, the waist e'i'ici tcli'ng membet'bet'ween the upper edges thereof and the ledges" bein free for engagement by the belt encircle portion of the trousers and hip pads depending" from said ledges.
