To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LAWRENCE L. HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Springfield, in "the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Governors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
1 My invention relates to governors and in particularto a governorcontrolling the intake of fuel. i It is the object of my invention to provide a governor which will control the .5 amount of fuel being admitted to the engine according to the speed of the engine and, upon the engine passing a predetermined speed, Will cutdown' the supply of fuel.
It is another object of my'invention to provide such a governor which may be adjusted to suit the particular car.
It is a further" object to provide a governor which will have the shock of its suddenly reaching its closed position suitably absorbed to prevent injury to the mechanism and to also assist in dislodgin the valve from its closed position in case It sticks.
It is an object to provide a governor which will progressively cut down the supply of fuel as the speed increases in order to maintain an averagespeed.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a side elevation'of my device with the cover broken away; and Fig. 2 is a section taken vertically on the main axis of-the governor showing the valve in open and closed position.

This head is adapted to come 1n contact wvith a plate 20 mounted on a helical spring 21 which is supported in a bracket 22 onthe outside of the governor casing. The pin 23 is providedasa stop to limit the downward movement of the arm 16.
As to the operation of the device, when the engine is started and the suction takes place through 5, 6, 10 and 11,-the tendency is to draw the valve members 8 and 9 to a position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 to shut off the supplyfof 'fuel. The greater the suctionof the engine the greater the force exerted upon these parts.
In order to resist this action the lever composed of the part 16-18 is provided and the Weight 17 is mounted on 16. 1
When the suction overcomes the effect of this weight and actually closes the valve, in order to prevent any injury to the valve members, to prevent any rattling of the valve members against the inside of the goverfror casing .andto absorb any shock incident toclosing, I provide the spring 21 which'comes in contact with the head 19 of 18' upon this closing taking place.
