Be it known that I, JOHN SCHREIBER, a citizen of the United States, residing .at the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have e invented a new and useful Conveyer, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to conveyers of a type for conveying 4persons by operatives, or for conveying operatives by persons for whom work is to be performed.

An object of the invention is to provide an improved conveyer of the character and for the purpose mentioned.

In the embodiment of the invention shown, the conveyer is one for conveying persons or customers for Whom work is to be performed past operatives or servitors, although it will be readily understood that the principle of the invention is general and that 2o the operatives or servitors may be moved relative to the customers or persons being served.

The specific embodiment of the invention shown is one for use in a shoe polishing establishment where the customers are seated upon the conveyer and are thereby carried or conveyed past the operatives or servitore who successively perform different stages of the Work. The embodiment of the invention shown for illustrative purposes comprises foot rests upon which the feet of the customers are placed while the service is being rendered, and a stationary platform for covering the foot rests to prevent them from interfering with customers While the latter are passing to or from the conveyer.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved conveyer of the character and for the purpose last mentioned, in which a number of persons may be served successively by a series of operatives or servitors who successively perform different stages of the Work from the initial portion thereof to the final completion thereof.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved conveyer system for use in shoe polishing. establishments embodying the improvements mentioned and which, in addition, occupies a comparatively small area of space and which also embodies numerous other features of advantage, all of which will become apparenty from the following description, reference being made to the drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the invention.

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view illustrating other features of the invention.

The establishment in which the invention is shown is designed and adapted for use as a shoe polishingestablislnnent, and includes a room or space having an entrance 1 of sufficient width to admit the customers without interference with each other or with the attendants. The entra-nce 1 opens into a waiting room 2 which is of sufficient area to contain necessary or desirable equipment and any needed attendants while leaving room for the passage of the customers therethrough to the conveyer. The equipment of the room 2 may be of any desired character, as for instance a cash box 3 and a drinking fountain et, with space 5 for an attendant.

From the waiting room 2 an ascending stairway 6 leads to a platform 7 Within the work room or service room containing the conveyer. 1

As shown, the conveyer is in the form of an annular series of seats 8 supported for rotation in a horizontal plane. The mechamsm for rotating the seats may be of any approved type and, as shown, comprises a shaft 9 attached to the axis of the seat frame and jo-urnaled for rotation 1n a support 10. A gear 11 attached to one end' of the shaftl l0 is rotated by a power driven gear 12 which, 1n turn, is operated by an appropriate motor or power device 13. A frame member 14 in y connection with the seat conveyer has an annular track 15 operating upon rollers 16 carried by a. stationary frame 17. In this way the conveyer may be held steady while in rotation, irrespective of the distribution of` the weight on the conveyer.

A number of bifurcated foot rests 1S are pivotally supported by the conveyer frame and have roller equipped arms 19, the rollers of which opera-te against `the irregular edgeof the frame 17. The construction and arrangement is such that as the foot rests approach the edge of the platform 7, the roller equipped arms on the foot rests pass to a shorter portion of the frame 17, thus thereby raising the ends of the foot rests to position to receive and to support the feet of the customer. Thus, the foot rests are entirely out of the Way at the points at which the customers pass to and from the .conL veyer. This wholly prevents the clothing of tliecustomei from becoming caught on or entangled with the foot rests and renders the conveyer entirely safe.

From that portion ofthe platform 7 at which the customers alight-from the conveyer a descending stairway 23 leads to a space or room 24 bordered onone side by a counter 25 adapted to contain and to display merchandise such as cigars, candy, chewing gum, etc. ABehindv the counter a space 26 is provided for an attendant or other. person. From the foregoingit will be seen that :my invention obtains all -of its intended objects and purposes in aV highly e'liicient manner. The embodiment of the invention which l have chosen for purposes of illustration, is a simple one designed especially for the uses mentioned, although it is perrbe applied to numerous uses and that the form and arrangement may be varied widely without departure from the principle involved.

5. A system ofthe characterdescribed,

comprising a room having an entrance and -an exit, a stationary platform at the entrance and the exit, a rotary conveyer supported in the room for rotation on a vertical axis platform and to 'permit the persons thereon .to alight on the platform, .seats on the conveyer, and footrests tov support the feet of the customers mechanically controlled to --permit use of the platform without interference by the footrests. i

A conveyer for effecting relative movement between customers and attendants, comprising a conveyer for moving one class of such persons past the other class, mechanism for operating the conveyer, seats on the conveyer for the persons thereon, a platform for use by the persons boarding the conveyer or alighting therefrom, and foot rests supported by the conveyer and arranged to move under the platform to permit use of the platform without interference by the foot rests.

A system of the character described, comprising a room having an entrance and an exit, a stationary platform at the entrance and the exit, a rotary conveyer supported in the room for rotation on a vertical axis in position to be boarded by persons on the platform and to permit the persons thereon to alight on the platform, and a series of foot rests pivotally supported by the conveyer and arranged to move under the platform.

A system of the character described, comprising a waiting room having an entrance, a stairway leading from the waiting room, a platform at the top of the stairway, a rotary conveyer operating adjacent to the platform to receive and carry the customers, a number of foot rests pivotally supported by the conveyer and movable to and from positions for service and arranged to move under the platform to permit use of the platform to prevent interference.
