Description
@patented Jan. 27, 19,25.
UNITED STATES HOWARD LEWIS PINTLER, F PEOBJIA., ILLINOIS GAME.
Application filed October 22, 1921.
To all t0/0m t may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD Lnwis PINT- Lna, a citizen of the United States, and a resident oit' Peoria, in the county of Peoria,
State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part oit' this 1o specii'ication.
My invention relates more particularly to games similar to quoits wherein the players stand at a distance from a stake and pitch or toss articles toward the stake, the
counting being determined by the nearness of the articles to the stake.
Such games have been playedby using cast oiiF horse shoes, which are usually rough and have sharp edges, and are in- 2o convenient to hold or pitch.
The object of my invention is to provide an article, similar in shape and size t0 a horse shoe, but arranged to be easily held and pitched without liability ot' tearing or wearing the skin from the fingers of the player.
The novelty of my invention will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. l is a perspective View oi a game device made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an edge View of Fig. 2.
'Ihe same numerals of reference are used to indicate identical parts in all the figures.
In carrying out my invention I provide a Serial No. 509,577.
device somewhat in the form of a horse shoe and comprising a curved body portion l provided with lugs 2 and 3 similar to heel cas, and a third lug 4C similar to a toe 40 ca The body portion is widened on one side as shown at 5, and the lug of the calli 3 is concaved across its face as shown at 6, the concave portion and the widened portion 5 45 serving as means for holding the device, the second joint of the index finger resting in the concave portion 6 while the thumb and the second finger rest above and below the widened portion 5.
The edges of the concave portion 6 are preferably rounded as shown at 7 Fig. 2, so that as the device is pitched, it can be released without danger of injury to the player.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. In a game device a curved body p0rtion, a projection at that end of the body portion grasped tor throwing and provided 60 with a concave face, and a widened portion of uniform thickness with the body portion and adjacent the end of the body portion which carries the concave face projection.
2. In a game device the combination of a horse shoe shaped body, calks carried thereby, one of said callrs being concave faced to aiiord a finger hold for throwing, and a thumb and inger holding portion projecting inwardly from the body portion and adjacent the call; which is concave faced.
I-I. LEWIS PINTLER.
