An object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is particularly applicable to a percolator.
Another object ofthe invention is to provide a device of this character having novel and improved means for supporting a fuse which is em loyed to cut off the current.
Another 0 ject of the invention is to pro vide a novel and improved fuse for a device of this character.
The following is a description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which,

Fig. 2 is a detail bottom plan view of a portion of the device illustrated in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a detail view in perspective of the fuse that is employed in the device.
The percolator illustrated in the drawings is provided with a base 2, a liquid receptacle 4, a heating chamber 6, a heating coil 8 surrounding the heatin chamber, and an electric plug socket 10, .w ich parts may be of a well known construction. As shown the percolator is further provided with a depending heat retaining sleeve or skirt 12 surrounding the heating chamber and coil, and spaced a distance therefrom. This skirt 12 is provided with an outwardly turned flange 14 on its lower end to which is secured, by screw bolts 16, a disk 18 of insulating material that is spaced a distance below the lower, end of the heating chamber, the disk 18 and the skirt 12 forming a heat retaining casing for the heating chamber 6. The space between the lower end of this casing and the base 2 is closed by an annular member 20 which is secured to the under side of the disk 18 by means of the screw boltsl6. is provided with a vertical cylindrical wall portion 22, into which is fitted a removable cover or closure 24, the bottom wall of the closure being spaced from the underside of the disk 18.
The disk 18 is provided with a transversely extending rectangular aperture 26. A pair of electrical contact members 28 and 29 that are formed of resilient strips preferably of nichrome are secured by rivets 30 to the under side of the disk 18. These contact strips 28 and 29 are set into sunken portions in the disk 18 and their rear ends are provided with apertures through which binding screws 32 extend, the binding screws being screw-threaded into inserts 34 in the disk 18. The contact strip 28 is electrically connected with one of the terminals of the heating coil 8 by a conductor 38 secured to the binding screw 32 associated with said contact strip, the other terminal of the heating coil being connected by a conductor 39 with one of the binding posts of the plug socket 10. The contact strip 29 is electricalconnected wlth the other binding post of the plug socket by a conductor 40 secured to the binding screw 32 associated with said contact strip 29.
The conductors 38 and 40 extend through apertures 42 in the disk 18. The inner end portions of the contact strips 28 and 29 are m the form of hooks 44 that open downwardly and are arranged in the rectangular aperture 26. The hooks 44 are for the purpose of removably securing a fuse in the rectangular aperture 26. As shown, this fuse is provided with a rectan ular central portion 46 of lead or other fusible material having trunnion-like projections 48 on its ends integral therewith. Cylindrical tubes or sleeves 50 of brass or other metal having a high fusing point embraces the projections 48. The s eeves 50 and the hook portions 44 of the contact strips are so constructed and arranged as to enable the end of the fuse to be pressed into said hook portions so as to cause the hooks to grip them, and thus securely hold the fuse in the aperture 26. a

The complete device is held in position by the three screws 16 and it is only necessary to remove the closure 24 to obtain access to these screws, the fuse and the contact strips. By making the disk 18 of insulating material the disk not only serves to insulate the contact strips 28 and 29 from each other, but also serves as a heat insulator.
As will be evident to those skilled in the art, my invention permits of various modifications without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. An electrically heated utensil comprising an electrical heating unit and electrical connections in circuit therewith comprising a member of fusible material, sleeves of metal having a'relatively high fusing point embracing the ends of said member and means for. holding said member comprising electrical contact members engaging said sleeves.
2. An electrically heated utensil comprising an electrical heating unit, and electrical connections in circuit therewith comprising a member of fusible material having reduced projecting ends, sleeves of meta having a relatively high fusing point embracing said ends, and means for holding said member comprising electrical contact members having portions of resilient material for gripping said sleeves.
3. An electrically heated utensil comprising an electrical heating unit, a casing enclosing a portion of said unit having its bottom wall provided with an opening therein, and electrical connections in circuit with said heating unit comprising a fuse arranged in said opening, and means for holding said fuse, comprising contact members having downwardly opening portions of resilient material for receiving and gripping the ends of the fuse so as to enable the revents heat from escaping from the perco ator through the aperture 26.

An electrically heated utensil comprising an electrical heating unit, a casing enclosing said unit having its bottom wall formed of insulating material and having an opening therein, and electrical connections in circuit with said unit comprising a fuse arranged within said opening, and means for supporting said fuse comprisin electrical contact members secured to sai bottom wall and adapted to hold said fuse Within said opening by engagement with the ends of said fuse and to permit said fuse to be removed from the under side of said bottom Wall.
