Description

H. S. CLARK. Running-Gears of Vehicles.
Patentedlune 23,1874.
.Zzynq'f gz/Znjmfew. Wma;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY S. CLARK, OF TOVANDA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN RUNNING-GEARS OF VEHICLES.
Specification forming part of Lett( rs Patent No. 152,336, dated June 23, 1874; application filed June 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY S. CLARK, of Towanda, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Platform-Gear for Wagons; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of my invention from the under side, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the platform-gear for buggies and other vehicles, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Like letters of reference in the figures indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the back spring-bar of a wagon,
Y near each end of which is iirmly secured a bar,
B. The bars B B cross each other a suitable distance in front of the spring-bar A, with a circular plate, C, attached on top and another on the under side at the joint. A circle, D,
is also attached on the upper side of' the bars B B, as shown. At the front ends ofthe bars B B are clips or clevises c a for the attachment of the shafts.
This platform-gear isrequally applicable to light and heavy Wagons, with two seats or more, and may be applied to the heaviest Wag'- ons by increasing the size of the bars B B, and by bridging underneath G G represent the bridging-bars on the under side of the main bars B B. y
This gear may be made wholly of iron or part iron and part wood.
To apply a sti' tongue, a bar is put across the front ends of the bars B B, and two perchbars from said cross-bar to the circle, and ironed in the usual way.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the spring-bar A, bars B B, crossing; each other, and the circle D, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimonyr that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRY SPALDING CLARK.
