Be it known that I, CLARENCE -HERRON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bozeman, in the county of Gallatin and State of Montana, have invented new and useful lImprovements in Rolling Radiator Shutters, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to means `for controlling the passage of air through the radiator of an internal combustion engine so as to regulate the temperature of the water in the radiator, the general object of the invention being to provide a curtain for the radiator with means for raising and lowering the same from a distant point.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings vand specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanyingdrawings wherein like characters denote like or .corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of an automobile showing my invention in use.

through the space between the shell and the radiatorframe and into the space under the hood of the automobile, where it is connected with a strap or other flexible member 6 which passes through an opening made in the dash of the automobile and is secured to a drum 7 which is rotatably mounted on a shaft 8, carried by a bracket 9 which is suitably secured to the dash. The shaft is provided with a washer 10 which has a projection 11 thereon for. engaging any one of a number of holes 12 formed in one end of the drum. A spring 13 on the shaft tends to press the drum against the washer so as to hold the pro jection- 11 in engagement with one of the holes. The member 6 is provided with characters 14 which are preferably placed two inches apart, these characters indicating the extent the curtain is covering the face of the radiator.
From the above it will be seen that by pressing the drum away from the washer so as to move the projection 11 out of engagementwith the holes in the drum, said drum can be rotated to wind the member thereupon or to unwind said member from the drum. The winding of the member upon the drum will pull the curtain over the face of the radiator so as to regulate the amount of air passing through the same. When the curtain has been raised a suii cient amount, which will be indicated by the numerals on the member 6, the drum is moved against the washer again so that `\the projection on the washer will engage one of the holes and thus hold the parts in adjusted position. When the drum is revolved in an opposite direction to unwind the member 6 the spring roller 2 will wind the curtain 3 upon itself, thus uncovering the face of the radiator. This invention will permit the driver to regulate the amount of air p'assing through the radiator and thus control the temperature of the water circulating through the engine. The inclined bar 1 acts to keep the curtain pressed against the radiator and it also acts to scrape any dirt or any foreign matter from the front face of the same when the curtain is vbeing wound upon the roller.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in,
the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A cover for the radiator of a motor vehicie comprising a bar having its .ends bent and connected with portions of the vehicle, the central part of the bar sloping downwardly and outwardly, a roller havingv its pintles carried by the bent ends of the bar, a curtain on the roller and passing between the `inner edge of the bar and the front/face of the radiator shaft and means connected with the outer end of the curtain for raising the same to cover the radiator.
