Be it lmown that I RAYMOND G. Bon- .toox, a citizen of the lJnited States, residing at Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roller Suspensions, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved form of roller suspension for the drawers of a metal filing cabinet.
This and other objects of the invention will be illustrated in the drawings, described in the specifications and pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.

In the drawings, reference numeral 1 indicates the blank from which the stationary guide 1s formed. This blank is bent to form the channel 2 shown in Figure 19, the cross sections of which are shown in two places in said figure as indicated by 3 and 4. The flange 5 extends the full length of the ide at the bottom and is extended u Wang; as indicated at 6 and 7 and exten s inwardly as indicated at 8. The flange 9 extends from the rear of the guide to within a short distance of the front thereof. The guide is provided with cars 10, 11 and 12 at each end which extend thru openings in the upri hts 50 and by which the guides are attache to the uprights or frame of the case. A. key 51 is used to complete the interlocking of these ears with the upright. This key is moved edgewise along the upright into ena ement with the ears. The key is shown 1n igure 23 and is shown in position locking the upright and guide together in Figure 4. The bottom of the channel is formed with a depression 13 therein for a purpose that will presently appear.
Mounted to slide in the channel is a floating member 14 which is formed from a blank 15 shown in Figures 9 and 10, respectivel The top and bottom edges of the blan are bent to form a channel having dilferent cross sections, which sections are indicated at 16 and 17 in Figure 9. The bottom of the channel 17 is perforated at 18 and recessed at 19 to, receive the rollers 20 and 21 which rollers project therethru and make rolling contact with the bottom of the channel shown in Figure 19. The roller normally rests in the depression 13 and thereby fixes the normal position of the floating member in the guide when the drawer is closed. I The lower part of the channel 17 1111111- cated by the numeral 22, travels m the passage formed in the bottom of the channel 4, which passage is indicated by reference numeral 23. It can pass endwise therefrom but cannot be moved upwardly therefrom.
The floating member is provided with brackets 24 and 25 which support the rollers 26 and 27 with which engages the bar 28 shown in Figure 12, which bar is formed from the blank 29 shown in Figure 13. The bar 28 is ri 'dly fastened to the side of the drawer as own at 30 and travels with it. This bar has the shape of an 8 'bar at the right of Figure 12 as shown at 28 and is channel shaped at the left and mlddle of re 12 as shown in section in Figure 15 at 284. The forward end of the bar on top is formed with a hum as indicated at 28 for a purpose that wil presently be described.
The normal relation of the guide, the
- floating member and the drawer bar above described, is shown in Figures 4, 5, 6 and 7, which figures show the parts in their normal relation when the drawer is closed.
When the drawer is pulled out, the bar 28 travels with the drawer. The movement of the drawer. and bar 28 is to the left in Figure 1. The top of the bar 28 makes rolling contact with the rollers 26 and 27 and the bottom of the bar 28 makes rolling contact with the rollers 20 and 46. The bottom of the roller 20 rests in the guide 2 and the roller 20 is caused thereby to roll along the guide and carry the floating member 14 with it at half the velocity of the bar 28. As the floating member 14 moves forward, the forward end of it makes rolling contact with the roller 46 carried on the forward end of the guide. This, roller 46 supports the forward end of the floating member from below. As the roller 20 begins to travel along the guide, it rolls up the incline of the depression 13 and on tothe level part of the guide. As the bar 28 progresses, the floating member continues to move with it andthe bar 28 continues to make contact with the roller 20. When the center of the gravity of the drawer has advanced beyond the roller 26, the rear end of the bar 28 will tend to ti up away from the roller 20, but will be hel in its normal relation from below by the roller 27 The floating member 14 will also tip up at the rear but will be held to its correct position and movement by the engagement of the roller 21 with the flange 8 at the top of the passage 23. The forward movement of the bar 28 and drawer is arrested by the bumper 40 fastened thereon by the bracket 41 and rivet 42. This bumper engages with the dog 43, pivotally mounted at t e forward end of the floating member. The forward movement of the floating member is arrested by a bumper 44 which engages with the bumper 45 on the guide. By lifting the inner end of the dog 43, the bar 28 may be released and drawn out with the drawer.
When the drawer has returned to normal position, that is,'pushed back into the case, the hump on the bar 28 shown in Figure 16 engages with the roller 26 on the floating member and the drawer is held in place thereby. The roller 20 on the floatmg member engages in the depression 13 on the guide shown in Figures 1 and 22 and the floating member is held in place thereby. The rear end of the floating member enga es with thebumper 48 at the rear end of t e guide and the rear end of the bar 28 engages with the bumper 47 on the floating member 14.
I claim:
1. A roller suspension for a drawer, having a stationary guide, channel shaped at the bottom, a single floating member therefor, said floating member being wide and channel shaped at the top and bottom at the rear and bemg1 narrow and channel shaped at the top an having a flange at the bottom in t e forward portion, the flange of the forward part being elevated above the bottom of the channel of the rear part, a roller located in the bottom channel about midway of the floatin member, the bottom flange of the forwar part of the floating member being raised above the said roller.
2. A roller suspension for a drawer having a stationary guide, channel shaped at the bottom, a single floating member therefor, said floating member being wide and channel shaped at the top and bottom at the rear and being narrow and channel shaped at the top and having a flange at the bottom in the forward portion, the flange of the forward part being elevated above the bottom of the channel of the rear part, a roller located in the bottom channel about midway of the floating member, the bottom flange of the forward part of the floating member being raised above the said roller, rollers mounted in the forward portion of the floating member.
3. A roller suspension for a drawer having a stationary guide, a floating member therefor, said floating member having a channel thereon at the top extendin from the back end to near the front, a c annel on the bottom thereof, extendin from the back end to about the middle 0 the floating member, a flange extending from the forward end of said bottom channel to the forward end of the floating member, said flange being elevated above the bottom channel.
4. A roller suspension for a drawer having a floating member, a guide therefor, a drawer support supported by said floating member, said support being channel shaped, the channel opening away from the drawer, said support having an extension on the top 1 thereof at the rear, said extension giving an S shape to the support in cross section.
