Be it known that l, RAY GRIFFITH, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Sabetha, in the county of Nemaha and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road Drags, of which the following is a specilication.
The present invention relates to road scrapers or drags and particularly to an attachment therefor in the form of a movable blade cooperating with means whereby it may be placed in various positions in relation to one of the liXed blades or scrapers of the road drag or scraper.
Another important object of the invention is to generally improve upon structures of this nature by providing' a device which is eflicient and yet simple, one which is reliable, easy to manipulate, durable, and Well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
lilith the above and numerous other ob jects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring' to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the road drmT herein illustrated consists of a rear scraper A, a front scraper B substantially shorter than the rear scraper and connected thereto by the end beams l and 2 and the intermediate beam 3. The end beam 2 is arranged diagonally of the drag because of the fact that the forward scraper is shorter than the rear scraper. A suitable platform indicated at C is provided on the beams l, 2 and 3. A movable scraper or blade D is associated Serial No. 684,640.
with the forward scraper B beingconnected to one end-thereof by a ball and socket ioint E, the socket portion 4lthereof being fixed to the movable scraper D and the ball 5 thereof being-attached to the front scraper B adjacent one end. In end elevation the movable scraper D is curved as is indicated to advantage in Figures 3 and 4., A slotted plate 6 extends from one end of the rear scraper A and a bar 7 passes through the slot thereo-f. The forward end of this bar 7 is conuectedto one end of the blade D adjacent its bottom by means of an eye bolt 8 or in any other suitable manner. A crank 9 is journaled in a bracket l0 mounted intermediate the ends of the platform C and a bracket ll at one end thereof so that a link l2 may be connected to the part 7 and to the arm 13 of the crank 9. The arm le is utilized for operating the crank so as to actuate the link l2 thus lowering or raising the end of the bar 7 attached to the movable blade D and in order that the blade may be held in a desired position the bracket l() is provided with a plurality of notches 16 on its arcuate edge adapted to be engaged by a dog on the arm 14.
In order to change the angle of the movable blade D, an arm 20 is pivoted at one end to the bar 7 as at 2l being operable by an arm 22. The other end of the arm 20 is attached to the upper portion of the blade D by a link 23. Thus by 'moving the arm 22 the angle of the blade D may be varied as is indicated to advantage in Figures 3 and 4L. A plate 24 is mounted on the bar 7 and provided with a notch edge of arcuate construction adapted to be associated with a dog indicated in dotted lines in Figure 3 so that the arm 22 may be held in a position to retain the blade D in an adjusted angular relation to the ground. By moving the bar 7 through the slot of the plate 6 it will be seen that the angle between the blade D and the blade B may be varied. This bar 7 is provided with a plurality of apertures 25 in order that a pin 26 or the like may be placed therein so as to abut the plate 6 and hold the blade D at a desired angle in relation to the blade B.
From the above description it is evident that the movable blade may be elevated at one end or partially rotated so as to vary its angle in relation to the ground and also moved so as to vary its angle in relation to the blade or scraper to which it is attached by the ball and socket joint E. It is evident that numerous changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of partsy may be resorted to without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination with a road drag including a fixed scraper, of a movable scraper and means whereby the movable scraper may be actuated to various angles in rela tion tothe fixed scraper and at various angles in relation to the ground and also means whereby one end of the movable scraper may be elevated and lowered.
2. In combination with a road drag, a fixed scraper, a movablescraper, a ball and socket joint between the fixedA scraper and the movable scraper, means for actuating the movable scraper in different positions in relation to the fixed scraper.
3. In a road drag 0f the class described, a xed blade, a movable blade, a ball and socket joint between the blades, a slidably mounted bar on the road drag loosely connected to the movable blade whereby by sliding the bar the angle between the blades may be varied, and means whereby the end of the bar connected to the movable blade may be elevated, and means on the bar for varying the angle of the movable blade in relation to the ground.
4. In combination with a road drag, a scraper, a ball and socket joint between the scraper and the road drag, and means for actuating the scraper in different positions in relation lto the drag.
