SUBSTHURN, SV ITZERLANE.
DISTBEBUTUR FOR THE EIGHVOLTAGE CURRENT 0F MAGNETO-ELECTRIC IGNITION MAGHINES.
Application filed August 22, 1919. Serial No. 319,233.
To alt whom it may concern."
Be it known that we, JAo 'Uns SoHNEinnn, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at Solothurn, Switzerland, FREDERIO BILLON, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at Solothurn, Switzerland, and ERNST HURLI MANN, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, rcsiding at Zuchwil (Canton Solothurn), Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Distributors for the I-Iigh-Voltage 'Current of Magneto-Electric Ignition Machines, of which the following is a specification.
In magneto-electric ignition machines for internal combustion engines, the distributor serves as is well known for distributing the high voltage current at the proper times to the sparking plugs arranged in the several engine cylinders.
The improved construction of a distributor according to the present invention is characterized by the feature that the conducting distributor segments that are connected electrically to one another, as well as the centrally situated current-supply contact, are cast in the insulating material of the distributor body and rotate therewith.
A constructional form of an improved distributor according to the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows thedistributor in section along the axis, and
Figure 2 a section perpendicular to the axis.
The two metal distributor segments aand b, (which are staggered axially as well as circumferentially), and the central current The distributor cylinder 05 is driven by the ring of teeth 7 which is fixed by means of a split ring 9 to a disc-shaped extension h (centered in the ring of teeth) of the cylinder d and which drives the cylinder by means of a stud or screw 2' projecting into the latter.
It is of special importance in the present device to have the whole distributor organ,
i. e. both lead-in and lead-out conductors, on one and thesame side of the toothed sector f and further that the sliding contacts a: and b shall lie in different planes perpendicular to the axis.
What we claim is A distributor for the high voltage current of a magneto-electric machine including a toothed wheel of hollow form, a solid cylindrical body of insulating material projecting from one side only of said wheel and having a flange formed thereon fitting into the toothed wheel, means including a split spring ring coacting with a groove formed segments embedded in the curved side of the cylindrical body and arranged in parallel planes perpendicular to the axis of the body, and electrical connecting means between said contact stud and said contact segments, said segments being relatively displaced on the circumference of the cylindrical body.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification.
