Patented Nov. 18, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH zonEozKY, or BETHLEHEM, PENNSYLVANIA.
SLUB CATGHER.
Application filed. February 16, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr ZoRnozKY, a citizen of the United $tates, residing at Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Slub Catcher, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slub catchers employed in connection with winding inachines, the primary object of the invention being to provide a slub catcher of the adjustable type, wherein the device may be employed in connection with a winding machine, winding yarn of various sizes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be locked in an adjusted position, thereby eliminating any possibility of the jar incldent to the operation of the machine moving the slub catcher out of adjustment A still further object of the invention 1S to provide a device wherein the adjustment will be accurately made to the end that the sections of the slub catcher will be moved in direct parallel relation with each other.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a slub catcher constructed in accordance wlth the invention and showing the same as mounted on a tension bracket, forming a part of the winding machine.
Figure 2 is a front elevational. view thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan view thereof,
Figure 4 is a side elevational v ew of the slub catcher disclosing the opposite side to the side shown in Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a rear elevational view of the device.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 4. V
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken on l1ne 7-7 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detall, the device includes a support or body portion 5 formed with integral upwardly extended Serial No. 693,311.
parallel arms 6 provided with openings to r accommodate the set screws 7 by means of which the device may be secured to a tension bracket forming a part of the winding machine to which "the device isapplied. The body portion 5 is also formed with a cut out portion 8 to accommodate the downwardly extended arm 9 of the tension bracket, which in the present showing is indicated at 10. To further insure against movement of the slub catcher with respect to the tension bracket 10, a set screw 11 is provided that extends through the body portion and into the opening 8 so that the set screw may bite into the arm 9 and insure against movement thereof.
Extending inwardly from one of the side edges of the body portion 5 is a dove-tailed groove indicated at 12 that accommodates the dove-tail 13 of the movable section 14 of the. slub catcher. (looperating with the movable section 14 is a stationary section 15 which is held to the body portion 5 by means of the screws 16 that are shown as extending through suitable threaded openings in the section 15.
A set screw 17 extends inwardly through the body portion 5 and bears against the end of the dove-tail 13 so that by rotating the set screw 17 to closely engage the dove-tail, the section 14 carrying the dove-tail 13 will be held in its positions of adjustment.
The section 15 is provided with an opening to accommodate the screw 18 which is formed with a bearing member 19 present ing a shoulder to be engaged by the plate 20 to hold the screw 18 in position in the section 15. A screw 21 extends through the plate 20 and into the section 15 to hold the plate in position on the section.
The screw 18 extends into a threaded opening 22 formed in the section 14 whereupon rotary movement of the screw 18 causes the section 14 to be moved towards or the adjustment thereof.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that I should it be desired to use the slub catcher as shown in connection with relatively large yarn, it is only necessary to adjust the screw 18 to move the sections away from each other enlarging the thread opening or pas sageway between. the sections 14 and 15. After an adjustment has been made, the screw Q1: that passes into the section 15 of the device may be moved into engagement with the screw 18 to hold the same against rotation.
In order that an accurate adjustment of the section 14 may be had, the thumb piece 25 which is secured on the outer end of the screw 18 is provided with graduations which may be viewed by the operator to determine the proper distance to rotate the screw for a predetermined sized thread.
I claim In a slub catcher, a body portion, a jaw removably secured to the body portion and having an opening adjacent to the inner end thereof, said body portion having a dovetailed groove, a movable jaw having a clove 15 tailed portion fitted in the groove, and an, adjusting screw extending through the open-\ ing in the first mentioned aw and operating; to move the movable jaw with respect to the Y first mentioned jaw. 20 In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH ZORECZKY.
