Description
CHARLES A. GABE, SR., AND CHARLES A. GABE, JR., OF BOONSBOROUGH, MD.
IMPROVEMENT IN LARD-LAiVlPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151 ,3 76, dated May 26, 1874; application filed April 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we CHARLES A. GARE, Sr., and CHARLES A. GABE, J r., of Boonsborough, in the county of Washington and State of Maryland, have invented a new andlmproved Lard-Lamp 5 and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the Aaccompanying drawing forming a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l is a sectional edge view; Fig. 2, a side View.
This invention relates to that class ot' lamps which are adapted to the burning of lard; and it consists in a new and improved arrangenient, by means of which the lard is better reduced to a condition to be effected by capillary attraction, and the manipulation of the wick facilitated.
In the drawing, A represents the ordinary slotted cone, to which the chimney is attached by the spiral spring a and bent ilanges b b. B is the lower plate of the burner, to which the cone is hinged at c, and fastened by a catch at d, said plate being provided underneath with a screw-threaded surface, by which it is screwed into the cap C. Through the middle of plate B, and extending some distance below it is the flattened canal or tube for the Iwick E, having in one side the longitudinal moves upon its fulcrurn through the slot g, one end of said linger being sharpened to bite the wick through the slot D for the purpose ot' raisin or lowering the same, and the other being fashioned into a handle. G are the guidebars, between which the nger F moves and rests.
lt will be seen that in this lamp the lower section of the burner, in which the toothed wheels are usually contained, is taken off. The object of this is to bring the aine as near as possible to the lard, in order that the latter its side an elongated slot,in combination with the curved finger F, moved throught a slotted eye over the'rod f in the cap C, its biting end raising the wick, as described.
CHARLES A. GABE, SR. CHARLES A. GABE, JR.
