Description
Oct. 14 C. F. PEVOTO GATE Filed Dec. ll 192 2 Patented @CL 14, 1924,
UNITED STATES CALVIT F. PEVOTO, 0F HARRISBUR-G, TEXAS.
GATE.
Application led December 11, 1922.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known tha-t 1, CALVIT F. PEvoTo, citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a gate, and has particular relation to a sliding gate and mechanism associated therewith through which the gate may be opened and closed.
One object of the invention is to provide a gate of the character described which may be automaticall7 opened by the approaching vehicle and which will be closed automaticall57 after the vehicle has passed through. l
Another object of the invention is to provide a gate of the character described which is of simple construction and may be cheaply and easiljvT constructed and which will be automatically operated.
lith the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a side view of the gate and the operative mechanism therefor and,
Figure 2 shows an enlarged side view of a part of the operative mechanism to be described hereinafter.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 designate the side posts, and the numeral 3 designates a center post. Mounted on top of these posts is the cross beam 4, to one side of which there is secured a track 5. The numeral 6 designates the gate proper which is shown in closed position and the end members 8, 8 which move back and forth along said track as the gate is opened and closed. The numeral 9 designates a supporting beam which is fixed in position and provided to support the operative mechanism hereinafter described. The numeral 10 designates a lever, one end of which is pivoted to said beam 9 and a link 11 is pivoted at one end to the other end of said lever Serial No. 606,088.
member of the gate. At a convenient place in the drive way through the gate L there is located a channel 12 in which there is located the actuating boards 13 and 14 which are fulcrumed near their outer ends on the cross supports 15 and 16 and at their adjacent ends, the board 14 overlaps the beard 13. One end of the lever 17 extends under the inner end of the board 13 and the other end of said lever is pivoted to the lower end of the link 18 whose upper end is pivoted to the beam 9. rllhere is a cross arm 19 pivoted to said beam 9 and this cross arm has a lever 20 rigidly secured thereto whose free end is connected to the lever 17 b v means of a link 21 which is pivoted to each of said levers. There are cross links 22 and 23 pivoted at one end to the respective ends of the cross arm 19 and pivoted at their other ends to the lever 1() on opposite sides of its pivotal connection with the beam 9. fi. strong pull spring` 24 is anchored at one end to the beam 9 and at its other end to the cross arm 19 near the connection of the link 22 thereto. When a vehicle approaches the gate its front wheel will travel along either the board 13 or 14 and in either event will depress the lever 1T operating to swing the cross arm 19 around into the position indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1 and placing the spring 24 under tension. This will operate through the links 22 and 23 to swing the lever 10 into the position indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1 exerting a pull through the link 11 and sliding the gate open. When the vehicle has passed through the pull of the spring 24 will restore the operative mechanism to original position and slide the gate closed.
What l claim is A device of the character described including an overhead horizontal track, supports therefor, a gate suspended from said track, an actuating lever pivoted to a fixed support. a link connecting said gate with one end of said lever, crosslinks pivoted at one end to said lever on opposite sides of its pivotal mounting, a cross arm pivoted to the other ends of said cross links, a lever pivoted to a suitable support at one end, an actuating board resting upon the other end of said last mentioned lever, and means operatively connecting said last mentioned level' with said cross arm, and through which the mechanism is actuated to Slide said gate open, when Said actuating boziijd is depiessedi jundvj. yieldable'ineiiibei' for actuziting'sa-id mechanism in the other direction to slide said gate to closed position.
