Patented Oct. 7, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDRIOK ALFRED EDWARD JENKINS, OF SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA,
RESILIENT COMPOSITION FOR MOUNTING TYMPANS OR DIAPHRAGMS FOR SOUND REPRODUCTION.
No Drawing,
To all whom it may coneern:
Be it known that FREDRICK Amman Fm- WARD JENKINS, a subject of the King ot Great Britain and Ireland, residing at ('3 Haig Avenue, Summer Hill, Sydney, in the State of New South Wales, Commonwealth of Australia, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Resilient Composition for Mounting Tympans or Diaphragms for Sound Reproduction, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the moi'lnting of tympans or diaphragms used in the reproduction. of sound by any means but more especially by talking machines and the like v and the object of the invention is to pro vide a resilient material which will effectively suspend and insulate the diaphragm or tympan within the body of the sound box and which will maintain constant resiliency over a long period. A further object is to provide a material which will not be affected in any way by climatic varia- I tions. Y
The composition consists of a mixture of gelatine and glycerine in the proportions of approximately three parts by weight of glycerine to one part by Weight of gelatine. but this proportion may be varied'to the ex- Application filed March 27, 1924. Serial No. 702,464.
tent of having equal weights, of each component according to the purity of gelatine ingredient, and the required resiliency of the final composition.
The ingredients are mixed together and form a solid but resilient substance which is free from surplus moisture and which can be moulded easily.
The composition is moulded to form a resilient ring round the edge of the diaphragm and to overlap it slightly so as to insulate the diaphragm perfectly. A corresponding annular'cavity is formed in the sound box to receive this ring which is moulded and formed in any well known manner.
I claim The improved resilient composition for mounting tympans or diaphragms for sound reproduction consisting solely of Gelatine '1 to .2 parts by weight,
Glycerine 3 to 2 parts by weight.
In testimony whereof he has affixed signature in presence of two witnesses.
I FREDRICK ALFRED EDWARD JENKINS.
Witnesses T. O. ALLEN, J12, W. ALLEN.
