Description

gept 23, 1924. Y awn-9 A. ALEXANDER DI SPENS ING' BOTTLE Filed June 19, 1922 Patented Sept. 23, 192%.
iii fiTA UNWE ABRAHAM ALEXANDER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DISPENSING BOTTLE.
Application filed June 19,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM ALEXAN- DER, a'citizen of the United States, residing in New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Bottles, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that type of dispensing bottle in which the liquid is fed to an absorbent pad or the like from which the liquid may be wiped on to the object to be treated, as for example .a garment, when the bottle is used for containing a cleansing fluid, or a shoe when the bottle contains polish.
The object of the invention is to provide a bottle of this type including a positive means operable by the wiper head for controlling the flow of liquid to the Wiper and for shutting off said How, the whole being of simple and inexpensive construction, the
parts-being readily assembled by unskilled labor.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in
which-- The figure is a sectional elevation of the wiper head and associated parts of a dispensing bottle embodying the invention.
By reference to the figure, it will be seen that the bottle, indicated at 1, is provided with a stopper 2 of cork or other suitable material. Vertically and centrally disposed within the cork is a stem 3 formed with an axial aperture 3 and having its upper and formed with threads 3*".
Threaded upon stem 3 is a valve disk 4 the disk being formed with a finger 4 adapted to close the upper end of aper ture 3*. Finger 4* is connected to the main body of the disk by means of a series of spacedwebs 5 so that whentheidisk is raised,- and tlfe bottle inverted, fluid may pass inter- I mediate the webs and through the disk. Clamped upon disk 4 by means of the flanged annular edges 7 x of the cloth being turned inwardly under the flange 6 of the plate. The plate is formed with a central aperture 8 for the passage'of the liquid, and intermediate the plate 6 is a cloth 7, the

plate and the cloth retaining member 7- is a pad of absorbent cotton or the like which may be periodically saturated with the liquid to be employed. It will be noted that the wiper head and Valve are in effect a single unit so that by giving the wiper head a partial rotation passage of the liquid from the bottle may be controlled.
In the operation of the device, a partial rotation of the wiper head will elevate the valve finger 4* so as to open aperture 3 and permit the passage of liquid to the absorbent when the bottle is inverted. The wiper head may then be partially rotated in a reverse direction to shut off the flow of liquid, and the liquid contained by the absorbent material may be applied by the wiper head to the object to be treated. It should be understood that the wiper head and its associate parts may be made of any desirable-size in accordance with the particular use for. which the liquid is intended, and various modifications may be made in the form of the various-elements without departing from the spirit of my invention. The absorbent body may be of any suitable material such as cotton or sponge and the material of the retaining member is unim-' portant provided it is suificiently permeable. Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1 s:
A dispensing bottle closure comprising a stopper adapted to fit within the neck of the bottle, a stem held vertically in said stopper and formed with a passageway for end, a disk threaded on the stem above the stopper, the disk being provided with a projection for closing the passageway in the stem, and a body of absorbent material car ried by the disk.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscrib ng witnesses.
