TOY BASKET-BALL GAME.
Application-filed February 21, 1923. Serial No. 620,361.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. VINAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mystic, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Basket-Ball Games, and I do hereby declare the follow- Fig. 2 a view thereof in rear elevation.

My invention relates to an improved toy basketball game, the object being to produce, at a low cost for manufacture, a simple, attractive, conveniently assembled and dismembered toy closely simulating the apparatus employed in playing basketball in nasiums.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in a toy basketball game characterized by having a plurality of units or members adapted to be readily assembled for use, and as readily dismembered for convenience of storage and carriage.
My inventionfurther consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In carrying out -my invention, as herein shown, I employ a base-member or plate 5, consisting of a rectangular plate of wood of suitable size, shape and weight to adapt it to support and stabilize the superstructure.
The size, shape and weight of this part may be varied as desired, but whatever its size, shape and weight, it is provided w th a centrally-locatedsocket 6 for the reception of a tenon 7 formed at the lower end of .a preferably rectangular post or standard 8 upon the upper end of which I mount a top-plate 9 secured in place by a screw 10. As shown, the ends of the said top-plate are beveled, as at 11, but this is a detail bearing on appearance, and may be varied as desired. The standard 8 is provided, at a point somewhat above its center, with a cross-piece 12, secured to its front face by a screw 13. This cross-piece is formed near its ends with vertically-arranged sockets 14 for the reception of the downwardly-bent, inner ends of a removable or demountable basket-hoop 15, from which the netted basket 16 is suspended. Preferably, the said hoop will be made of heavy wire, but it may, if preferred, be made of wood, or of heavy rattan. To prevent the loops of the basketnetting from slipping forward on the hoop 15, I employ a guard-hook 17, inserted into the standard 8 at a point just below the plane of the cross-piece. Above the said cross-piece, I locate a rectangular board 18, secured to the said standard and-the topplate thereof by nails 19, or in any equivalent manner.
As thus constructed, my improved toy v consists of a standard 8- carrying a fender 18, and having a demountable base and a demountable. basket-carrier. These three main elements are by their form and construction adapted to be compactly packed in a pasteboard box for transportation and storage and to be readily assembled for use and demounted as often thereafter as occasion may demand. The toy presents an attractive appearance and closely simulates the apparatus used in gymnasiums for playing basketball. In use, it may be set upon the floor or table, or otherwise positioned, as may be convenient.
I claim:
1. A toy basketball game, having a base provided with a socket, a standard removably mounted in the said base, a cross-piece secured to the standard and provided near its ends with sockets, a basket-hoop having ends removably inserted into the said sockets in the said cross-piece, a basket mounted upon the said hoop, and means for connecting the inner edge of the basket with the standard. a
