Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in T a mbou'ri-Frame- Driving Mechanism, of which the following.

The present invention relates to -tambourj 10 frame driving mechanism. 'Among'the'difii-j culties met in the embroidering machine art is the problem to transmit uniform motion to all points of long tambour frames. Since tambour frames are not absolutely rigid bodies, but to a certain extent flexible, there is a variance in the motion carried out by the different points of the tambour frame.
In consequence thereof the embroidery ,de}
sign becomes distorted and the work unsatisfactory.
The solution of the problem is rendered the more difficult the longer the tambour frames are and the more rapid the succes sive stitches or other operations are performed. The irregularity in the work becomes particularly noticeable when produced on automatic embroidering machines which, in order to compensate for the high cost of manufacture thereof, must be built so as to afford the maximumloutput which is attained by enlarging the embroidery area or in other words, the tambour frame. In the hitherto used machines in order.
to solve the problem, the tambour frame is positively guided at two or more places, while the drive is independent of the guides and is specially arranged.
According to this invention the tambour frame is supported at several points of its length on driven means whereby vertical motion is transmitted thereto and which means act on the frame directly in the plane of the center of gravity thereof and are actuated simultaneously through the medium of counterbalancing means near each end of the frame. 9
One embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts and in which Fig. 1 shows in a more or'less diagrammatic view an automatic embroidering machine and Fig. 2 is a modification of a detail thereof.

At the opposite end of the frame I provide a vertlcal slide-.6. The two slides 6, 6 each carry a roller 6 and these rollers are adapted to support the tambour frame in a vertical plane passing through the center of gravity of. the tambour frame; Projecting from each end of the stationary frame 7 is an arm 7 which carries a roller 7 Each vertical slide 6., 6 has connected toits upper free end 6 a metal band 9 which is guided around the respectiveroller 7 and which with its other end is directly connected to the respective counterbalancing mechanism 8. The counterbalancing mechanisms are positively connected with one another by crossing metal bands 10. In this manner motion from the driving mechanism is directly and positively transmitted to the twoends of thetambour frame and simultaneously the counterbalancing mechanisms are actuated.
In addition motion is positively transmitted to an intermediate point of the tambour frame located adjacent to or in the vertical line passing through the center of gravity of the tambour frame. To this end bour frame. This roller movably engages a horizontal loop 13 provided at the: lower I end of a vertical slide 14 guided in a bracket 15 fixed to the stationary frame7.
At its upper end the bracket 15 carries a roller 16 which is arranged opposite to and; in a vertical plane with the rollers 7?. A metal band 17 guided around the left roller :7 is conveyed around the roller 16 andhas i one of its ends fixed to the lower part of the slide 14, as at M and the'other end fixed to the upper part of the slide, as at 143 This additional mechanism affords the positive transmission of motion from the driving mechanism to an intermediate point of the tambour frame simultaneously with that transmitted to the ends thereof.
Instead of the loop 13 and the roller 11 the vertical slide 14 may be provided with two superposed rollers 18, 19 that positively engage between themselves the upper cross bar 2* of the tamhour frames 2, as shown in Fig. 2. I

In an embroideringmachine; the combination with the tambour frame; of driven means for transmitting vertical motion thereto at several points of the length of and acting on the said frame directly in the vertical plane of the center of gravity thereof and spring counterbalancing means near dium of which the several drive-n means are actuated simultaneously.
